I don't think Lowes pays much attention to what plants it sells where - at least the Lowes near us certainly doesn't.

Yes, I agree, Porkpal. I think the chains sell the same plants everywhere, regardless of hardiness zones. I'm always amazed when I see all of the plumerias for sale at the local Walmart. They don't grow here. Walmart never sells Abutilon or Ceanothus, however, and those two genera are greatly in demand by local gardeners.

So it appears I am in zoning 10a. Does this still qualify Beverly as a possibility? Group hug

Yes. Southern California qualifies for every rose except some of the older ones. Gallicas aren't supposed to be grown in any zone higher than 8, for instance, but I have a couple of Gallicas that grow well and bloom profusely in zone 9. They've both been here for about 20 years and haven't noticed yet that they aren't supposed to be happy here. Smiling

I think they pretty much have to differentiate their stock here in New York. Otherwise, less hardy roses like some of those sold in California (which I've never heard of, let alone seen at the big box stores here), would die in the first year in zones 6 and 5. And customers around here aren't shy about returning a dead plant to the store, in order to claim a refund against the one-year plant guarantee.

Our Lowes has carried Belinda's Dream the last few years. Mine does have the multicolor effect.
I also think I remember seeing Beverly at one Lowes this season. It took me by surprise, as I thought only Edmunds had that one. I grow both and they do look alike. I'll see if I can pick blossoms of both and put them side by side, see if that helps.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

I've seen Beverly & Belinda's Dream at Home Depot & Lowes. But Lowes' is infamous here for having really mismarked roses.. while HD is pretty famous for having just unmarked roses! Was surprised this year to find Singin' the Blues this year at HD.. but that was super early this season & I didn't buy any because I didn't know if I was going to be here in CO this summer. My mom, in Southern NM, bought 3 roses that she were some kind of yellow (she loves yellow roses), but didn't see the tag on the pot. She just saw the hanging tag, which was a generic tag. And none of them were in bloom when she bought them. She ended up with 3 Blue Girls (*swoon*). Super popular rose here (that's why I have so many of them.. plus I love them to much), but big boxes are horrific about mismarked roses. At least they are here in Colorado.
Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet...

I think half of the roses I have purchased from Lowe's have been mislabeled. On the good side half of them have been labeled properly!

I bought this rose as "Queen Elizabeth" for $3 at a discount store. I was so disappointed to get what obviously is not QE until, the rose became a real stunner with blooms all summer and fall! Any idea what this is? Just the root stalk of something that didn't graft?
