The ones I saw in the Americas were really ratty and tattered. But life is tough if you got a pouch.

Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus today too.

Vickie, I am so excited. Some new blossoms for me should be out tomorrow. Just 7 hours to go to daylight.

Ann, I have been waiting for Queensland Red. Unfortunately it was partially opened when it showered a bit yesterday and water got in the bud.

No more rebloomers, Becky? Glen I am loving the Queensland Red too. Luscious color and just the right amount of frilly edge.

Off the wall random thought here, I keep wondering if the Red Bull sports drink people could possibly have paid a breeder to name that daylily. Their logo is (surprise, surprise) a red bull exactly that color with a white outline . . . I know, I know, Rolling my eyes. but the reason I know this isn't because I drink the stuff, it's because we are F1 fans and their Red Bull team cars have a huge logo on them.

Elaine I wondered too about the coincidence of the name Red Bull.

Yes, Queensland Red is quite bright and luscious. It has interesting behaviour too. Amazingly, the bloom got better as the day went on!

It would have been good to know what Nunan thought of it when he bred it. Quite puzzling in an interesting way as to what is going on with it, especially as it has been partially open for days before.

I found it very difficult to photograph. I think the difficulty with photographing is its thin substance. So I decided to give it a go in the dark tonight and see how the flash showed it up. Voila!

The next bloom opens tomorrow and it too has been partially open for two days so far. Interesting.

Good thought Glen, to try @ night.

I didn't realize you were saying the blooms partially open for a couple days before completely opening. That's certainly unusual. I wonder if Nunan was on the track of breeding dl's that stay open more than 1 day? Or perhaps it was all an accident. Wish we had his notes & could read them.

The flip-flop picture shows the partly opened blooms from over two days ago. The one on the left should open today.

The flip flops make me feel right at home Glen. Hilarious! Hilarious! I've noticed on more than one of my photos that I have a tendency to get at least 1 flip flop in the picture. Hilarious!

I love flip flops or thongs as we call them in Oz.

Today's blooms. Caution: I am trying to learn new things with the camera from the new photography thread on ATP. Bear with me.

Goodness the technical stuff is difficult. My brain resists the learning no matter how I argue the case with it. It has a mind of its own.

I am trying to understand white balance today. And the rule of thirds in composition.

QUEENSLAND RED looks good again. This bloom had been partly open for three days.

OLYMPIC SHOWCASE is a real glower. However, these blooms look like they have been in a fight. At least they are normal blooms.
(edited later: Famous last words: the bloom behind has four sepals).

STELLA BELLA is powering along. The blooms look a little faded for only lunch time. Normally they are behind my asparagus and partly shaded - but this year I am eating them for the first time.

HEMEROCALLIS LILIOASPHODELUS. One day I am going to learn how to spell it without having to look it up each time I label its photos. Each scape has a puppy thing (proliferation - I am going to remember that word from now on too).
