Jan- too bad you can't train your little helper there to pull weeds as he goes along! Hilarious!

Vi -- I love your Iris beds. So neat, so symmetrical, so tidy! Perfect!!! I also love the circle and semi-circle. We used to have a rose garden fashioned that way. Yours fairly screams for another semi-circle or two!! Thanks for sharing! Green Grin!

Boy -- if I ever, EVER have my Iris beds in good order, I'd love to participate in Mr. Ghio's surprise package program. What fun -- and what Irises!!! Lovey dubby

Vi, very nicely done beds with great designs.

Jan, always wondered if iris grew at all in the Kula area upcountry? Maybe gets cold enough? Always stayed in south Kihei where it is certainly too warm in winter to keep irises growing. Welcome back.

Thank You! Dave!

Leslie - I wish I could train my "little helper" to help! She did come over just now when I lost
my balance and tumbled down the (small) hill while planting my PNW irises ! It took my husband
to help me up. I ended up with dirt in my mouth, and I suspect that I'll be sore tomorrow.

The rhizomes look great, and they sent 3 bonuses with my order of 9- among them Swoosh and Cosmic Celebration.

I have so much weeding to do.

Dave - this was my first visit to Hawaii - saw lots of pretty hibiscus and some new-to-me tropicals, but I have no idea about
irises there.

Dave, I would bet Iris could grow upcountry on Maui or the Big Island. There is an area on the Big Island that reminds me of California.. It's cooler and drier than other parts of the Islands.. Although it wouldn't surprise me if there weren't rhizome devouring insects/larvae/critters..

Jan- Welcome back!

Jan, glad you didn't hurt yourself with the fall. I have lots of weeding to do as well, I think It's going to have to wait a bit yet, I have lots of wood to split, and still have a lot of things in the veggie garden that I need to do something with. To top it off, I have a person coming to buy irises today. I told her it may be late for that, but she wants to get some, so they're coming this morning. I'll have to tell her about the brick trick to keep them from heaving out of the ground.

We are getting at the end of the planting season even in my zone. I have one more small order coming in this week and that will be that I guess. It is nearly October and we have frost usually by mid November and if it comes early this year I am going to be sheltering some irises from it for a bit. Sometimes we do not get frost until January but that is unusual.

Thank you Dave and Phillipb2 for your nice comments I tip my hat to you.

Different shapes are common in England, here is a photo I took in the park in my home town when I went there a couple of months ago.

What part of the UK are you from Vi? My son is currently living in Norwich. He has been there (RAF Lakenheath) for about three years and was hoping to be assigned to Germany in the late Spring. Apparently that is not going to happen and he will be stateside somewhere out West.

Small world Greg, Norwich is in the next county to where I am from which is Suffolk and I lived 13 miles away from Lakenheath so I am very familiar with the area where your son is at. I hope he has enjoyed his tour there.
