We've had over 1.15 inches of rain today, and it isn't slowing down. Good thing I don't have any gardening to do!

Maybe I should be grateful for these unexpected low temperatures. AMPLE evidence found the last two mornings suggests that more than one--like maybe a whole village--of rodents are making play time in my kitchen. Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Don't want the problem to get worse, so heading for the store in a little while to get bait and hoping it works. Calling in an exterminator is NOT what I wanted to have to spend money on this month. Time change means I will have to walk my dog in the dark around dinnertime! Yuck to that idea.

Much too windy out today, the wind is gusting. At least the sun is out.

Debra the rat baits work best even if you have mice. I have something called Tomcat Pellets, they work good. Also the all weather blocks work good outdoors but only put them were pets and children can not get to them like maybe in the garage.

Debra, that is nasty to have rodents in your house, they are destructive, disease carrying critters, hope you get rid of them soon.

I will see what is on the shelf at Walmart. From what I see, I think it may have already gone too far for the baits to work. Think I will have to call in some folks to wage--and win!--this war for me. But will try baits in the meantime.

Debra, maybe you can pick up some steel wool too, and stick it in any cracks you can find, where they could get into the house. Buy the cheapest stuff you can get, which means checking different departments. Usually the paint department is the place to get it the cheapest. Check around all the pipes under the sinks. If there is a gap between the pipe and drywall, shove some steel wool in the gap. You would be surprised at how small of a gap those mice can crawl through!

Throw rat bait pellets into those holes before you stuff them.

Good idea, Rita! I've never done that before, because I never thought to do that!

Mice are a huge problem here, but luckily I've never seen any sign of them in the house. I stuffed all the cracks with steel wool before we moved in, even though there was no sign of mice. Just wanted to make sure that they couldn't get in to begin with. There is no way to keep them out of the shop, but we have traps in there at all times for them. We go through streaks of catching 5 a day, and then none for a few months. Now that the weather is getting cold again, I need to reload the traps with some more peanut butter.

Natalie, there are too many openings that I can't block--because of size or location, but thank you very much for the suggestion. Lovey dubby

There was only one bait that said for mice or rats. Trying it.

Debra, if the holes are large, can you stick some wadded up newspaper in the hole? It would be better than nothing, and may help with any drafts, as well.

Glen, we have that problem here, too. One of our trucks is very attractive to rats. No matter where we go, if we stay for more than a day, a rat will try to build a nest in the engine compartment. Thumbs down Thumbs down Thumbs down We laugh about it being a rat magnet!
