We had sprinkles for most of the morning and early afternoon. It was soooo nice! We ended up with less than a tenth of an inch of rain, but we'll take anything we can get at this point!

We could hear thunder, but the radar showed the rain around the rim of our area. Just a few sprinkles, not even enough to wet the sidewalks. I looked up some photos and noticed how many things that were blooming last year in early July are struggling just to stay green at this time.

Well, we had 1/10 of an inch from drizzle. Hope we get more! Tomorrow's forecast is for 30% chance and the next day 20%. We need it BAD!

That sounds like a good shower, Lee! We have a 30% chance this afternoon. I didn't water yesterday evening and everything is drooped or worse. It's just too hot to water now. I hope they hang in until around 7, or we get that much needed 30% chance of rain.

That's wonderful, Lee!

Sandi- same story with us. It looked so promising this morning, so I didn't water because I was sure we would get some. About 2 drops is all Glare Hopefully the parched plants will hang on until this evening.

I broke down and hand watered some of the pots a little while ago. The house finally was shading them from the sun. Some have already perked up a bit. I looked at photos of the backyard last year at this time and nearly everything was blooming. This week it looks like we went on a two week vacation and forgot to get someone to water for us.

Had a friend visiting from New Jersey yesterday. She wanted to water the front. Asked if needed deep watering. I said yes. Found out afterward that, to her, "deep watering" means something just a teeeeeeeny bit different from what deep watering means in dried up, cracking black Texas clay. I love her for braving the heat, the flowers did enjoy the little drink they got--and I am going to set the hose out tonight to run as long as I had planned yesterday. Hilarious!

Our house is on limestone outcropping and the water just percolates on though. I figure we have been responsible for at least half filling the Edwards Aquifer after all these years. We missed the rain again. I haven't peeked into my rain tank, but soon I'll have to fill it with M.U.D. water and let the chlorine and asst. chemicals hopefully evaporate a bit before I use it on the pots.

My son and his wife moved from Lubbock to Bethlehem, PA, three years ago. In that time they have had to water their yard one time. So not fair! Of course, she totally hates the winter months without sunshine. Right now I would trade!

Not me. I like being able to go outside in a light sweater and jeans in January. You can always stay inside during the heat of summer in TX, but those dreary winters of the north and east would do me in.

I agree

We had the opportunity to purchase the Whitinger farm in WI several years ago. No amount of that rich soil or good rainfall could make me leave.

There was the small factor of my accent making me stand out a bit as well Whistling

Where in WI is the Whitinger farm, Trish? I grew up in the midwest (Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ohio), and I do NOT miss real winters one bit! I'll take our heat and humidity any day over -20°F with -40°F windchills and 3 feet of snow - or even worse, 1/2 an inch of ice. Ugh...

Elroy. Closest decent sized town is Mauston, I believe.
An hour or so outside of Madison.

Beautiful area, really.

It's a magical place. It's too bad, I'll never see it again. It's been sold. Sad

Looks about 10 years old. I estimate, as the van looks new! Hilarious!

Sandi- it really is stunning up there.

Good memories.
