"several times a day"? That's lot of attention you pay to your spoiled! I hope at some point my stake can "catch" the scape and hold it straight up...

Fiat, they grow so well for me because of all the attention they get. Lovey dubby Green Grin! I only have to stake the taller heavier blooms because I keep the scapes pretty straight.

Fiat, I hope the bloom stalk goes just a tad taller so you can try and fit it into the stake hook..but be very careful when you do it, so easy to bruise the stalk. Or if stalk is too thick you may want to use some plant twist ties so the stake can also help balance your bloom stalk as it goes about following the sun.

Update: day 47, peacock stalk up to 19"
Thumb of 2014-12-11/fiat/1e5a58
The thickness of the stalk has become larger than the loop open of the stake... Grumbling Grumbling

Something shocking just happened: in less than a sec, all the leaves around the stalk suddenly fell over and hang to the rim of the vase! Only the stalk still stand up as before (also the baby's leaves). I have somehow made the stake positioned under the stalk for support. I thought something's terribly wrong, but couldn't figure any. The fall-over leaves seem ok with no harm. Any idea?

I have observed that too in one of my amaryllis before, it seems as the bulb tries to start opening the bud, the leaves go lanky and then when it is done it goes right back up.

Thanks, Tarev. "opening the bud"? Don't see it so far (9 hrs after fall-over, during the night though). But one of the small leaf at side is backing up a little. Hope everything is fine.

Fiat, is the plant getting any sunlight, if the light isn't strong enough it will produce weak growth.

I think we don't have enough sunlight recently in our area; it's been 4, 5 days all cloudy and raining and a big storm is right in the corner to hit. Should I keep my indoor light on all day long?

It is not a quick thing for the bulb Fiat...eventually it will be able to open the bud. Yeah, it is just so dark and windy outside right now..you may want to turn on some lights, or move to the nearest window for now.
Yup, getting pounded here by the strong winds...no rain yet, but I see the dark clouds starting to roll from the west. Take care!

Yeah, the storm with mass rainfall will hit our area (yours first Tarev) this afternoon and continue until tomorrow. Too bad for my A. and other plants (even inside). Funny thing is that my Samba still keeps its only scape growing with no other new growth (no leaf, just lone scape), and the now 3" scape already grows its trunk as thick as my Peacock's 20" stalk and its bud head as big as Peacock's! No trouble for the Samba due to no leaves! Very weird.

It does that sometimes..just the bloomstalk, and will grow the leaves later after the bloomstalk is done. I like it, makes it easier to see the blooms later, no obstruction. Smiling Yup, dark clouds right on top of our area right now, raining now as the winds have died down.

That same storm is huge and is here too, the past 2 days we have had mostly gray skies, a little rain and lot of high winds.

I agree about just the stalk making it easier to see the bloom, Tarev, so far I have been lucky, I just have bloom stalks on 3 plants, leaves are just starting to show. Big Grin

Margaret, I believe the storm coming our way (from west) has not yet passed to your area and it'll hit with massive downpour not just high winds. The one you mentioned probably from previous one which got more wind than rain. This fresh storm already hit the Sacramento area with power down causing bad delay at the airport. We are to embrace this one now and you will also later. We need more water (rain) now, but lot people are preparing for flooding. How conflicting!

Fiat, it is has just arrived in the form of wet snow, we usually get the tail end of most storms as they swirl around the mountains. Lots of flooding on Vancouver Island. Sad

Sounds as if you are having lots of winter weather up and down the West Coast. We are just having chilly temps in Northern FL. You know how you never know your heater is broken until the first day you need it. Happened to us yesterday:now waiting for a new fan motor to be delivered. We're bundled up in our Northern clothes. Feel sorry for my Amaryllis, they are actually much too cold right now.

Oh dear, that is so true, the motor went on our Furnace a few weeks ago. Your Amaryllis will just have to tough it out. Hilarious!

Just curious: what temp you guys set for your indoor A.s? In FL is it that cold now? I remember when I was still studying in MI, we used to drive down to FL to escape the great lake freeze in the winter. How come you need heater now? Guess the global weather is all messing up now?

Indoors, I like to kept them at a constant 70-79 at least until they bloom. We are having our second cold snap of the fall, lows in the mid 30s. The frost line in FL cuts across just about Orlando. North of that you do get frost, it doesn't stay around for more than a day or two and spring comes at the end of Feb. Northern visitors to FL run around in T-shirts and sandals, while the residents are in parkas and winter boots. LOL this is true, so cold is a relative term.
