The Wildflowers: Seeds of History show was especially good! Seemed like it was all about Texas. On my way to Boerne yesterday, I stopped to check my favorite madrone, along Hwy 16. Ah, I should have moved down to where I was able to take a pic of the whole tree, but was having trouble with my old camera, lucky to get anything at all.

That is really neat Linda, I have wanted a Madrone for a long time but they seem to be impossible to get, never have been able to find one. Smiling

Good photos, Linda! They're finicky trees, so I hear. There's a road out here called Trail of the Madrones that has them on it. I missed the KLRU wildflower show, but I was able to find it on their website. Just have to find 55 minutes now to sit still and watch it!!

Rain on its way tonight!!

I had bought two little ones at Natives of Texas a while back, but after a while they died...drought, heat, transplant shock, not enough attention? Don't know! May try again if La Nina does go away, but I'll wait and see....can't trust those weather people. The large older ones. like the tree I took the pics of are amazing!

A view of some Texas natives in my front yard: Prickly pear, Indian blankets. Second photo is native thistle. I love the natives.

Oh, thank you porkpal. These gardens have been a labor of love, with a lot of casualties along the way. It was somewhat frustrating at first until several years ago when I decided to "go native". Before then, it was too much of a temptation to look at seed catalogs and magazine layouts and think I could grow those plants here. Better sense has prevailed, but my "obituary list" is quite long. Hilarious! I still like to look at the English type gardens - but I no longer waste money on plants that would croak after ten minutes in our Texas sun.
And we have plenty of beautiful flowers that CAN survive here, so I'm content. Plus they're low-maintenance!

I am new to this website. I saw your post in 2011 about transforming your yard to natives. There was a request for a list of plants that you selected by another member. Do you still have that list? I would be very interested in viewing it. I want to start transitioning my garden as well, but not sure where to shop and what to grow. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank You!

Josephine and Sheila have shared so much knowledge of Texas natives with me as well as many cuttings. I don't know if Sheila has posted pictures of her yard but it's a real arboretum!
