Tom, I was re-reading this thread, looking at pictures and when I looked up Carnival Capers I saw Brad's field clump shot...it is stunning!!! Sometimes I have trouble imagining what a clump would look like because none of my plants are up to 'clump size'. That one is moving up to 'absolutely must have'!!

I looked to see if there was a clump shot of the iris you have listed as Travel Trader and could not find it in the ATP database or on the AIS wiki (under TB's at least). Are you sure that's the correct name?

Yes, It's one I imported from Australia directly from Blyth. Mine wasn't big enough to be a clump yet, but maybe will have 2 stalks next year, 3 if I'm lucky.

It is interesting that you grow those TBs, Tom. We grow some Blyth SDBs (although I will have to replace Chanted), but I have always been nervous about TBs in a northern climate.

It was a bonus from Tempo Two. I wouldn't have ordered it based on the picture in the catalog, but when it bloomed I was sure glad he sent it. Look at that beard, so fun!

Tempesto is beautiful! It has a lot of color and yet is still mellow. I'll bet that will make a gorgeous clump! Some irises have a wonderful bloom but sometimes an iris that is not your favorite single bloom makes the most awesome clump. Sometimes an iris will make a healthy clump but needs to be grown by another clump in order for either of them to take your breath away. Later we may have to start a thread about the merits of which iris make the loveliest clumps and why. I know a lot has to do with an individuals taste but...... I wonder if most people seem to be attracted to the same attributes of an iris clump...... interesting.....

I like Tempesto as an individual bloom better then as a clump. It dosen't really create one of those breath taking clumps like some others do. I had a fairly nice clump of it this year, but I don't think I even took a picture of it.
