Chz. is the official abbreviation for Cahuzacara. Now I know you feel a lot smarter than before. Hilarious! As Elaine would say, the orchid boffins will not be tamed.

Edited to add: See http://www.orchidsaustralia.co... to check out orchid abbreviations.

That orchid of my mom's is a cross with Haleahi Sunbow. And now I have to change that, too? I'm glad Lore Lisa asked what a Chz. was or I was going to do it. Or start calling them cheeze orchids. Hilarious! And don't feel bad about the NOID thing. I first saw it used with the African Violet people and it took me a long time to figure out what the heck they were talking about.

Love that Tolumnia, Jim! I was looking at mine yesterday and thinking how fun the blooms are. Mine's not blooming, I was just cleaning the shade house and giving everyone a pep talk. Oh, and I found two orchids with buds! So it's not just my vanda you guys will get to see soon.

Thank You! Jim. I hope to squeeze in as many gardens/nurseries with tropical plants (orchids!) as possible the day before our bowl.

That make two jobs I want for my next life:
1. Changer of orchid names.
2. Maker up of drug brand names. There is a new one called Qsymia. I don't even know how you would pronounce it, but it will be pulled off the market soon, if it hasn't been already. It is a weight loss drug, I saw one ad for it.

I would grow the Mona Church like a Vanda, nice and sunny and warm. It is miniatum x ampullaceum.

Lore, another one is DIMP, Died In My Possession. Smiling

Cahuzacara? Good grief, what a name!!! Rolling on the floor laughing

Jim, just beautiful!!! I love the Mormolyca rufescens! Lovey dubby
And thanks for the Little Mermaid pictures. The lip on mine is darker. Maybe I should name it 'Ursula' and call it a day. Smiling

Another good term is "UFO" - Unidentified Flowering Orchid". I like UFO better than NOID.

Thanks (again) for the information, Ursula.

Love the Haleahi Sunbow, such delicate shadings there and a graceful shape. We'll forgive it for the bizarre name. Rolling my eyes.

We are finished with diving (my underwater therapy) and enjoying a last warm day before heading back to f f frigid FFFlorida tomorrow. Hope my orchids have survived!

Melissa, I love the Kefersteinia mystacina. I had to add it to my want list.

Ken, for your Aeranthes grandiflora, grow it like a Phal. As for now what is Vanda Mona Church, it is composed of species of which 50% take medium light and 50% take high light. Grow this hybrid in dappled light to bright indirect light conditions. It is considered a warm growing orchid.

Lore Lisa, Ursula is correct (yet again), Your Bc. binosa x B. Little Stars is not yet registered.

Melanie, good to see you posting again. Funny, I just posted both parents of your mom's orchid. To answer your question, (Chz. Haleahi Sunbow x Gur. deckeri) is not yet registered but you can update the parents.

I think I am caught up?

Sooooooo the Ascocentrum is now Vanda, right? Darn, I just laminated a half dozen labels for that plant. So this would be considered a sub-compact Vanda but takes less light than the typical Vanda? My plants are only approximately 6" tall, half in small hanging baskets and half mounted on cork.

Okey, dokey. Too late to change the labels. I will have to wait until I run another batch. I kind of liked the sound of Ascocentrum. Vanda is, well, so ordinary sounding. Sticking tongue out

Melissa I really like your BLC Petite Stars. I love freckled Orchids.

Urusla my Barkeria whartoniana is blooming now also. It looks like your B. melanocaulon

Rolling on the floor laughing Jim, I couldn't float far on 1.75" of rain! As usual, the storm petered out at the county line. Long Beach got hammered and it went north through LA. NOAA is already backing off on the storm that's supposed to hit Tues.

Yes, Barkeria whartoniana is very similar to melanocaulon. I like that it is such an easy bloomer.
