I'm thinking of going to Suncrest and Monterey Bay wholesale nurseries not far from me. They both sell PCI's. Certainly worth a call to see what's available before I go out there. I'd like to add some before spring. Usually by the time they're in bloom, the've got them roped off. How many would you like me to pick up for you Rob? 😜

And I could probably tag along with Sherry, swing by your place on the way home to make the delivery? How easy & convenient would that be Rob?! You know you are going to eventually have them in your garden anyway so might as well start clicking on those links. Whistling

If I win the almost 300 mil lottery, I'll buy a bunch and send them to him! LOL. I suppose I better go buy a tickent, they say you increase your chances of winning slightly if you buy one. Rolling on the floor laughing

Tom - IF you buy that ticket, then IF you win, not only can you buy the PCI's for Rob, you could also afford to have someone plant them for him! What could be easier than that?!!

That's odd as I have some bearded growing in the garden here. Just a few. I had ordered several hundred dollars worth from Schreiners (being a total idiot) and had pretty much all of them die. Two of these are from local nurseries but are (as far as I know not hybrids with Siberian input). The big test will be that I left some new ones that a ATP friend sent me outside last winter in the ground. The rest I split and kept inside in pots. They are out from snow, all of them outside. Some of the greenery looks yukky, some green. We'll see. If they survive (I have had some survive and bloom for a year or so with huge fans, then die the next year). This winter was so mild (except for a couple of weeks lately when the snow was all but gone and it sat in the single digits. Praying that all came through okay. Heavily mulched with leaves last fall (but not the iris ????) most of the beds.

@Oberon46, did you mean to post that in another thread? It didn't seem to fit this one about Pacific Coast Iris. Shrug!

Well yes. I thought since I could grow some iris here that would mean that those further south should have a good chance of growing the Cal/Sib iris down there. Perhaps it is misplaced. Feel free to delete. Rolling my eyes.

Mary Stella, I just recently planted two Siberian irises. It is hot here in the summer and cold in the winter. I really don't know how to care for them but they are so beautiful so I am going to try.

I love looking at slide shows of the PCI's. One of our CAIS members is from CA. He had a lot of PCI's while he was living there and does programs on them. He is an excellent photographer and took photos of them both in gardens and growing in their natural habitat. They are lovely.

No need to delete anything, I just wanted to make sure you were in the right thread. nodding Believe me, I have made the mistake of reading one thread and accidently putting a post in another one.

Here's our first named PCI. It's Joe's Big Money. A nice bright yellow and a reliable bloomer and it grows well. It's a little short. Lack of rain? Lack of cold? Who knows?
