I'm afraid too tall for me. I really don't like irises over 36". The swirling winds oven cause problems. We have one 38 because it was hybridized by a club member.

Speaking of clubs, how many of you belong to an iris club. with all your knowledge, many of you would be great additions to the regional scene.

Lucy - I tried to join our local club, but you can't get them to reply by email or by their facebook page. Guess they aren't much for members.

An e-mail to the officers? That would work here. We have a site which gives the membership chairman. Some one is not on the ball.

Really Leslie? The Fresno club welcomed me with open arms. They are happy to be getting some new blood! Somebody really did drop the ball!! Too bad, their loss...unless you try again. Maybe things have changed, or someone was having a bad week...?

Find where they are meeting and drop in, Leslie. You will be welcome!!! I am a member of the CAIS and I serve on the board of directors. I agree, everyone should get involved if they can.

We don't have an Iris club in my area. The Bluegrass Iris club up in Lexington -- 5 hours away. I have reached out to the west Tennessee club -- they did respond, and invited me to participate. However -- they're two hours away. That's difficult. Sad

I know. I am about an hour and 15 minutes away if I don't get behind an old truck hauling cows or a farmer on his tractor. Luckily it is on a Sunday so I can usually avoid farmers and county mowers. We meet at 2 and by the time I get out I don't get home until dark in the winter. We have a four hour meeting later this month to set dates, etc. but then the days get longer and the drive more pleasant.

I emailed the President and no response. It has been hard to track down the officers and meetings. They have a yearly sale in Raleigh and I even inquired about when it would be held, but no response. I start to wonder if this would be a good group to be part of if they make it so hard to join. Maybe I will just go over and see if the Duke Gardens needs some volunteer help. That is just blocks away and full of lovely plants.

I'm sorry, Leslie. Not only is it their loss but with all the public events held by the clubs the public will lose out too. You have a lot to offer, Leslie. Sounds like they need an infusion of new blood in their chapter. So many of our garden clubs are disbanding that the national Garden Club Assoc. thinks that they will become a thing of the past. sigh

Oh, that sounds like fun! I would definitely look into that. You are apt to meet some interesting people that way.

I travel about an hour to get to the Fresno meetings. It's only once a month and I try to coordinate it with other things, errands, doctor's appointments, etc. It's worth it to me. I've enjoyed getting to know Rick and Roger from Superstition as well as many other really nice people. The club is rather small, but a good group of people.

Leslie, do all the email addresses have the same routing? Meaning to they all have something structured like .hotmail.com? If they do, it is possible there is a problem with message delivery. If not, maybe you can look up the organization a step above theirs, let that organization know of the communication problems, then go see the folks at Duke Gardens. Smiling
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

Yesterday I signed up for newsletters and announcements from the Bluegrass Iris Society and looked up their facebook page. They planted a big new Iris display garden at the UK arboretum this past summer- I haven't been there for a couple of years, it will be fun to see the new garden!
