We had a wonderful day hiking around the Point Lobos State Reserve. I got to practice with my new camera and remembering the requests of some of you in the colder parts of the country I had planned to share some of the photos. Unfortunately I'm having some technology issues getting the images downloaded to my photo library so I'll have to wait till I get home and have the cable to do a direct download (I'm hoping that method will work). So please know that I was thinking of you and I will share some of the gorgeous scenery with you soon!
I'm home and settled, and I figured out how to download my photos from our trip. I was asked to share them with you to help brighten up the bleary, dreary days of winter. I hesitate to post them for fear someone may think I'm bring unkind in pointing out much milder our winters are than in some parts of the country...but we all have our better and our less than great times of the year.
I need to insert a disclaimer for those of you who are expert photographers. I'm still learning this camera, so these photos were all taken in automatic mode, basically they are 'point and shoot' pictures. Hopefully by iris bloom season I will learn some of the special features of this baby!
The first group of photos are taken from the balcony of our room in the Carmel Highlands above the Pacific Ocean. The second set were taken during a day long hike through the Point Lobos State Park. It is basically a marine wildlife reserve.
DH says we hiked at least 10 miles that day...but really it was less than 5 miles, we are just out of shape!!
Warning: There are a lot of pictures...and none of them are of irises...so if you are not interested just skip the rest of this post!
So in the spirit of brightening up your day here you go…
If you look closely at the picture below on the right you can see a whale spout in the distance. The whales were migrating and we could see 2-6 at any given time during the day from our balcony!
Can't you just see this guy tapping his foot impatiently? He was waiting for me to finish eating my baguette with brie so he could have the crumbs!
This set of photos was taken at Point Lobos State Park:
They reminded me, again, of what a beautiful world we live in -- graced by such a wide array of interesting and awe-inspiring creatures. Thanks for sharing your photos with us, Marilyn. Looks to me like you have a pretty good handle on that new camera!!!

Great photos! Love the head shot of the seal (or is it a sea otter?). The blowhole shot at the end with all seals, and the one right before it w/the seals on the rocks reminds me of Antarctica. (Which is a very good thing). Looks like a wonderful place to stay!
