I've never seen a photo that I thought did Exotic Treasure justice. I hope you get to see it in bloom.

A few more seedlings for your viewing (and for Rob, drooling) pleasure!

Thumb of 2015-03-26/Misawa77/dba87e

SDB seedling 13-SDB-08-32, parentage is All Ruffled Up X Eye of The Tiger; interesting colors and a very large fall spot.

"Another maiden arilbred (OGB) seedling in bloom today (March 22nd, 2015) that we will reselect and evaluate further. 13-AB-11-01. We like the recurved falls with the "brown" look even though on closer inspection, the lines are burgundy. Parentage is a seedling going back to 2001 (involving Noble Warrior, Energizer, 3 doses of Bagdad's Folly, and 2 doses of Sheik) X Sand Dancer. Yes, Sand Dancer is producing a lot of nice lined arilbreds for us."

"Another seedling in bloom now (March 15th, 2015), this one is being seriously looked at for introduction next year (2016). An aril median quarterbred (OGB-) 11-AM-02-10, parentage is Energizer X Replicator. Rebloom genes are in there, but no rebloom here yet. Petal color is somewhat similar to this year's Warrior Prince, but this one has a much better defined almost black signal with the light beard sitting on top of it."

"An interesting SDB seedling in bloom today (March 14th, 2015) , 11-SDB-25-32. It is from my extensive space-age and rebloom lines, but has shown neither so far. Love the color of the light chartreuse standards and imagine trying to write a description of those falls! Probably not going anywhere with it, but an interesting flower. Very involved parentage going all the way back to 1991. On pod side is Carmel Celeste, Punk, Love Unlimited & Yearling. On the pollen side is Mesmerizer, pumila seedlings, All That Magic, Extra Charm, Tender Tears, Wake Up & Bisbee."

"Nice arilbred seedling in maiden bloom. 13-AB-12-03 (OGB). Obviously will be reselected and planted back to further evaluate next year. Parentage is a complex seedling (Aztec Prince, a sib to New Vision, and 2 doses each of Bagdad's Folly and Energizer) X Sand Dancer."

I wish they would introduce this one. It is the white beard that sets this one off. Also, many SDB's have a 'thumb spot' instead of a color wash on the entire fall which also helps make this one different than most.

I agree with Bonnie. I would buy that seedling in a heartbeat. Sad to see they aren't persuing it.

My thoughts too, Lucy. It is not the run-of-the-mill iris so there must be a reason it will not be introduced other than the bloom.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Roger says this bloom is looking a little better now so they are going to save some to evaluate next spring. He also said they will probably introduce an SDB seedling next year (2016) which has similar colors and much better plant habits.

He said the colors are similar but don't have the same color impact...so I'm not sure what that means. Maybe they can breed it with the brighter seedling and get one with bright colors and good plant habits. Either way I'm looking forward to seeing the seedling they plan to introduce nest year. Maybe they will post it on their Facebook page (actually they may have already posted it...I guess I better go look!)
