I am sooooo mad...something opportunistic took a big nibble on my Euphorbia candelabra! I took it out of the growcamp so it can further heal..but it made for a good meal instead. Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling
Photo Feb 13: it was already healing nicely...the brownish area is drying up with the sun up and about and no rain here

I cannot BELIEVE something ate a Euphorbia! Blechhhh!!! I bet whatever it was got a horrific bellyache and won't be returning! I've got a nice Euphorbia candelabra if you want to trade with me for a cutting....I could probably cut one of the 6" arms for ya if you're interested. Fresh start

It is a taste testing monster! Grumbling Glare Rolling my eyes. I was trying to look for a trail..and I think I saw the trail. I guess it first tried to eat my mammillaria..thankfully the thorns seems to have protected it, but the Euphorbia has some smoother surfaces so it was able to munch on it. grrr! Interestingly..though knock on wood, it does not like the Aeoniums ....yet! Those ones have real attractive new leaf growth.

I guess the snails are getting desperate..no rains..no new leaves on the usual targets it likes, so it is trying the succulent taste.

I hope it doesn't like Aeoniums, cause yours are knockout beauties!!! Something is chewing on my peperomia that a friend gave me...I set a beer trap (much to the DH's annoyance...'You're wasting my beer on a bug?!' he groans....) and caught nothing, but lost another peperomia leaf bite... Angry

Your biter seems a lot more aggressive, though...and desperate...you should set up a nanny cam! Sabotage!

One tried to attack my Plumeria too several days ago, aiming for one of the newly forming leaf claws..but did not get to it. I guess the Plumie sap was too much hah! Score one for the plumie..but it did leave an ugly scar Glare

Tarev,
What in the world could do this. You think a snail or slug. Or maybe a rodent? I just can't believe any think could put up with at sap. Please try to find out for us. Just curious. And it just had to be that strange new growth that was very strange in itself.

I think it is either a slug or snail..I saw the slimy trail on the peanut cactus beside it..It was not able to devour the peanut cactus hah! The spines protected it. Really heartbreaking seeing my poor Euphorbia, after seein it grow nicely last year. Hoping it recovers..soon!

I do hope the sap did affect that invader!

I'm curious, have you had any attacks since the Euphorb attack? I'm sure that sap killed something soft bodied like a slug or snail....!

So far, I have not seen any, maybe the weather is helping too, there is zero rain and it warms up nicely now, not the conditions these slimy creatures like.

Yeah it was on the mend already drying out, then it became a meal from that beastly snail.

On the good side of things...Crassula ovata 'Gollum' enjoying this cool and dry conditions, it is foggy again today, and some tiny bit of droplets in the air, but just good for the plants. Smiling

Love your Gollum! I have one too but it's still squatty and short. Can't wait for the trunk to develop.

Thanks Kate! Smiling I notice I get more of my trunk development during the warmer dry months, the leafing growth more during late Fall to early Spring.

Ohhhh.....that is good to know. I noticed a halt in leaf development over the summer and got really worried it was going to croak. Then, around December, I noticed the plant looked REALLy lush. Glad to hear that's your result, too.

I like the cool weather for them, they also get that lipstick red color at the edges or even the whole leaf when they get cold stressed. Smiling
