Sherry -- that is a little cutie!! Love it!!

And Pam -- I am in love with Honey Mocha! Love those brown Irises!!! Heading now to the database and learn more about it!

Holy cow Pam -- that is a 1980 Iris! Look at all those ruffles -- it looks like a new modern! I'm astounded. I never heard of the hybridizer -- someone named Walter Luihn. Anyone ever hear of him?

Pam -- could I talk you out of a little, tiny rhizome of that one? Pretty please? Maybe I could send you something I have that you'd like............???

Sherry -- California is two hours behind Central Standard Time. So when it's midnight here, it's 10PM for you.

Well, he won the Dykes Medal with 'Song of Norway' so I would guess most iris people know who he was. Didn't introduce a lot of irises, they were well known and regarded at the time. Quite a few of them are still grown.

Ah -- thanks Kent -- that's good to know. That was quite a bit before I got involved in Irises. I have heard of Song of Norway though -- just not its creator.

His is a foreign-sounding name. Had to be American to win the Dykes, right? Is he still hybridizing, do you know?

He passed away back in the early 90, I believe.

I'm finding an appreciation for the rusts and browns. So many beautiful ones from which to choose.

Well I don't know about his other irises but Honey Mocha and Song Of Norway are a very nice legacy to leave behind!.

She also has Navy Chant which I recognize...but it needs a better picture. There are several others with pictures and quite a few without.

Ok...I know this is off topic...but I have to share one more. I was poking around looking at Walter Luihn's irises and found one that @brettbarney says he has...but there is no photo in the database. It's another of the golden/brown ones so here are links to a couple AIS database photos.

AND...one other in that color-range that I stumbled across today. It's an older iris, but it's such a gorgeous color and shape I think it rivals the beauty of many of the modern ones, but it reminds me of some of the Arilbreds. The photo is by Greg...so if you have any of this one Greg...please keep me in mind...and I noticed it's on Rob's wishlist too!

OK...now I'll be good and wait until 10:00 (California time) to post my "I" iris.

I have a number of seedlings from this one that I'm looking forward to seeing this spring (knock on wood).

I love that one! I added it this year...I hope it blooms so I don't have to wait!
