I feel so bad for one of our neighbors down the street. We don't know them but on Friday night the huge oak tree fell right into their yard and house. It could have been a lot worst, but you can see a large concave at the roof line. I think some of the tree limbs helped saved the blunt force to the house. A few years ago they spent a huge amount of money fixing up their house and having their landscape put in. Yesterday we were told by their neighbor that an arborist said the tree was 'fine'.
A portion of their roof is now covered with a large tarp. We are suppose to get 40 MPH winds today with this storm. Again I feel so bad for them.

That's horrible Barbara! Sad I'm glad nobody was hurt.

It stopped raining, so I checked the rain gauge and that was a quick 1.5 inches of rain! Thumbs up

Thank you,
I think the weather reports said we were suppose to get about 3" today. We've already got 1 1/2" too.

Congratulations on winning the raffle Sherry. Hurray!

The weather here in Melbourne has been continually bouncing from one extreme to the other. We get a couple of days of cold, wet and windy weather followed by a day or two or hot dry weather on a repeat cycle. I guess it's good for the garden to get rain at regular intervals.

I agree

Yesterday's weather was all over the place! Started as a windy day (with some serious gusts that blew over a number of pots), then calmed down a little around lunch time (still a reasonable breeze, though), then became overcast, then the wind picked up again, temperature dropped 5-10 degrees C and it bucketed rain for part of the afternoon. The rain had stopped by 7pm and the sun came out for about 15-20 minutes before disappearing again! No more rain overnght and the sun has been out all day so far, despite forecasts for 16 degrees and rain all day!

Barbara, I've learned that many "Arborists" know nothing about tree diseases. I had an oak that had some of the indicators of Sudden Oak death. I called a guy I knew that was kind of a hack (but called himself an arborist in his ads), but since it was just coming down, and nothing was under it I didn't care... and he was cheaper than some of the others. I showed him the black growths on the trunk, and he said they were just parasites that he sees all the time. Then when he cut the tree, there was the distinctive patterning that showed the disease. He didn't believe me on that either.
That's just one of many that I've had through the years..

Anyway, I'm sorry for your neighbor's problems. Hope they stay dry...

I spoke too soon again. It started raining while I was in middle of something and I'm soaked to the bone....but it feels good. Big Grin

Hmmm... that 'something' you were in the middle of would not involve wearing a tutu and doing some fancy dance moves by any chance? Big Grin

I'll be out on my broom for a bit this evening... Perhaps I can brew up some rain.

It stopped raining, but the sky is very gray. We got another inch of rain from yesterday morning until this morning.
Happy Halloween everyone.
