Is it too late to request an Insect or Spider badge? Smiling I've been finding all kinds of cool insects on my plants and many of them are spiders. I know, spiders are not insects... all because they only have two instead of three parts.

I like spiders, too. I'm the one who rescues them and takes them outside instead of freaking out or squishing them like all of my friends. I can't say it's exactly a badge I'm dying to have, but it looks cute. Smiling Now maybe if had been a dragonfly...I stop and stare at LOTS of pretty dragonflies in my garden. Or maybe a really cool beetle... Or maybe something like this guy that I found just chillin' on one of my daylily scapes the other day, LoL! (Just kidding.)

That looks like an annual cicada.

Yep, I save the spiders, if I don't, my husband squishes them. I saw a mama Cellar Spider carrying her egg sac around while I was washing walls. I let her be as I didn't want to disturb the eggs. Oh and I counted 7 Common House Spider moms on the porch guarding their egg sacs. Baby spiders are coming out of some of them.

I agree That's a Cicada. My dog thinks they are a tasty, crunchy treat. Sad

Kim - thank you for confirming! That's actually what I told my husband it was, but then convinced myself out of it because I can't recall ever seeing a cicada...I just know a cicada is a big bug that makes noises and that doesn't show up too often. Is there a variety of cicada that only spawns/breeds once every 10 or 14 years or something like that?

By the way, two acorns your way - one for ID'ing my bug, and the other for saving yours! (I'm sure the mother spiders appreciate your hospitality, too Rolling my eyes. )
