Well so far I am impressed with the gloves. I washed them out last night and they are dry now. I used them when weeding and potting up and they were very comfortable and I did not get any slivers, which has been an issue with my new potting soil. Retail price is 20 bucks or so which is expensive for a glove unless they last for awhile. I just ordered 6 of them, they were $11.50 wholesale. I hope they last.

UPS just brought a box....I love shopping.

Rebecca, I'm a fan of Atlas gloves. I never wore gloves, until I put together the fact that my skin & nails were always cracking during gardening season. I have a lot of fungus issues & the dirt/damp/mold wasn't good for me. I miss the feeling of the dirt running through my fingers, but the Atlas gloves really allow a lot of dexterity & I DON'T miss the slivers! However, they're absolutely useless against rose, berry, etc. thorns.

I'm definitely a water baby - grew up in the water... started swimming on a swim team at age 6 & spent about 5 hours a day at the pool each summer, lifeguarded at 15 & married the swim club manager (my ex) at 25! I had no fear of the ocean, but (like many things) developed a healthy respect/fear of it, when I took my kids (who weren't such strong swimmers) to the beach. I envisioned a peaceful afternoon with a book, in the sun, but that mama bear couldn't take her eyes off the water for a second! Never had the desire to try flying, sky-diving, etc. when young & you couldn't pay me to get that far up now!

Oddly enough, I've never been a strong swimmer, but that didn't keep me out of the water. I'll tell you what's scary and it worries me now that we did it and I would never in the world let any children do it....growing up young in the San Joaquin Valley and learning to swim in the canals. I look at those now and think we're lucky we didn't drown.

Yea, Sherry, there are lots of things I did over the early years and now wonder how I made it here decades later. Like the time I was driving up Hwy #1alone from Palo Alto to Fort Bragg. Pickup up two male hitchhikers in my '65 Mustang. Minutes later I hear on the scratchy radio that Sharon Tate had been found..... Manson ... I was a little nervous, but why I wasn't terrified I don't know. 2 hrs with these guys. I was just home from a trip to Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and was fearless (read: stoooopid).

Liz, I swam early too. Lakes, swim club, high school swim team. Love the water.

I did worse than that..I was the one hitch hiking...lol...and yes, there was one guy I picked up on Hwy 1, who spent the rest of the ride down with me, but he was Jewish, lived in 'the valley' and was harmless...lol. I didn't even let my son walk to school or ride the bus, no no no.

Alright gang, in case you missed it, Dave is giving us so much fun features around here, of course you already saw the new microbadges, here you can pick out the latest badges:
http://garden.org/users/prefs/...

and here is a new feature to jump ahead faster to the newest post:

"In forums, you can now click the red Yes to automatically jump to the newest post!" and then to improve on that as if it wasn't good enough:
"You can now set your preferences to automatically jump to new on every thread you visit. Go to your profile, and then site preferences, and answer yes to the auto jump question. Save your changes.
From there out, anytime you go to a thread (whether you click on the red yes or not) it will automatically skip you to new."

Sue, REALLY? A person? REALLY?

I thought that's what it was but I couldn't find the likeness at all. It might look more like a clam shell or a snail to me... so I just called it a gray disk...

Thanks guys, I just thought it was a decorative shape. Still does not look like a people to me, but I got where I wanted.

Worked out all day, its hot and I am tired and cranky. Gonna have a glass of wine, I think, and finish cooking dinner and then go out and look and see if it looks good, as tired as I am it sure should look good.

I have a couple of barrel type planters, not wine barrels but look alikes a bit smaller. I planted them up with geraniums and coreopsis and realized this is the last year for them. Hope they last through the summer but will have to toss them. I really don't like wooden things, they do not last at all here.

I like hypertufa and concrete. I have not had time this year to work on my hypertufa, maybe this winter. I like doing them and I like the way they look and they LAST.

Off to check my noodles.

Bex, I don't see how in the world you get as much done as you do. I don't think I would fix dinner if I were doing as much as you. Does your uncle eat there every night? I'm really intent on wanting to do some baking and yet, evey morning I end up being out there watering first and grumbling about it....lol.

I know, I know, I had totally tuned it out as well until someone pointed it out!
Right now Dave is so inundated with the microbadges otherwise I would suggest and update on that image. I might put it in his suggestion thread though because it seems many are asking how to find their profile.

My uncle eats here every night except the weekend. Sometimes the food isn't all that great, I am just too tired. I did get a bunch of work done, came in and just flopped. I work really hard and it seems I am always behind on it all. One of my customers was looking at my garden and asked me if I had 5 acres. I said, no I have 2.5, if I had 5 acres I would be dead. But I complain a lot too. A whole lot.

Tomorrow I go to Brookings to do some shopping and have lunch with my friend who is 92. She is amazing, her hands are so messed up, her thumbs are actually deformed and turn in at the first knuckle, it makes me hurt to see it. And everytime I go there, she has little stacks of weeds here and there. She has Monica come once a month for a day and does the rest of the work herself. There is no lawn, its all planted. She is also an artist and really good. She is always sketching and is now doing ceramics. I put in her yard a few years ago. She takes me to lunch when I have time and we eat banana cream pie. We go to this place where the pies, bread, soup and salad dressings are all homemade by this older woman. Its really good. I get the ginger chicken salad, we share it then we have room for pie. And lots of whipped cream too.

I want that pie.

My daughter brought me some noodle that were gluten free and they were seriously nasty. She got them at Grocery Outlet and I think I know why. They clumped up and were sticky. Yuk. So I ate some meatballs and sauce. The speghetti really looked good and uncle and Lanny said it was very good.

I've been away from this site for a few days but am enjoying reading the posts all you "gray discs" have made.
To backtrack for a second, I saw they now have mayonaise with Olive Oil in it. It's gross...don't even go there.

Speaking of dangerous/stupid things we did in our youth, for years we used to surf in the water off El Segundo right in front of the hyperion plant. Never got any kind of infection or anything like that...then one day we showed up and they were making anyone who'd been in that water in the past week get hemoglobin shots. Worse than that, I can't believe people eat the fish they catch in the water in LB.

I don't understand how women can garden wearing gloves...Tasha Tudor would be aghast at that !

I've seen pictures of Tasha Tudor wearing gloves. Is that only when she's not gardening?
