Sherry, that Variegated Wonder is high on my wish list, in fact, I didn't order Wonders Never Cease yet as I am holding out for that one since the blooms are the same. Just waiting for a price drop, and of course further reports as to its garden worthiness and stability.

Leslie, The Keppel Irises I've had have done well here in this extreme weather, so I don't think that if one or two don't work out you need to worry about the others. I had two die of rot last year, they were in that area were I lost a lot of others, and Keith Keppel replaced them both without charge. Same went for one from Superstition, it died, they replaced it. When you pay those prices, they want you to have success.

Keith Keppel prints the background of his irises, so check the parentage of the one's which don't like your conditions. then you know not to order the parents which are not favoring your area. He posts the parents with that problem in mind.

Lestv said:It appears Veneta Faye is just not a good grower. Greg said in a thread that he lost his over the winter, mine got rot and dwindled down to one itty bitty fan that, even after being babied inside, is in it's death throes, and others have mentioned problems growing it too.

Really? Venita Faye grows like a weed for me. It's constantly crowding its neighbors. Our climate isn't the worst in the world for growing bearded irises, but it's far from ideal. Shrug!

Well since it's been talked about but not picked ( Venita Faye) is my choice for the day Big Grin It has certainly done well in Iowa up until last winter but that does not count because everything had rot in it last year as you can see from the picture's it blooms and grow's well in Oregon. I am curious where you got your start of it from Leslie ? wondering if that may be the problem.

Marilyn.. (Vintage Port) is more ruffled normally than what it shows in my picture it was the only bloom open when I was there of it, the color is accurate but I think the one in your link is a lot closer to what it looks like. I liked it enough to buy it last year so hopefully between the 2 of us we can do it justice. Smiling

Brad, you didn't ask me, but my Venita Faye came from the Monterey Bay club sale in 2013. It was, and still is, a nice sized rhizome. It hasn't rooted well and it's just been sitting there. Hasn't bloomed, hasn't increased. Other Iris in the same bed are doing well.

I was out puling off leaves off the collection still in pots and noticed one I got from the sale last August has not rooted at all.. Does anyone ever use a rooting hormone to jump start a rhizome?

W is the end of my alphabet, unless you want to call pallida 'Aurea Variegata', "Zebra"...

Here's one of the 2 that have bloomed. Since I don't have a good picture of 'Wabash'... Here are some of 'Whispering Falls' (Schreiner '05)
