Got mine yesterday, and am already marking things I want. Its great to look at the garden and see where something new is "needed" now while things are growing! I noticed prices on several items have dropped, and that always makes me happy.

I'm looking and marking things I want also as I look through the catalog. I didn't notice any dropped prices, yet.

No Fall website yet.

I received my catalog too and this is a great time to have it. I am going to make markers for the things I plant to buy and then go out to the garden and look for places where I do not have other things planted. When if find the place I want to plant the new bulb I will put the marker in the middle of that spot. Then this fall I will know right where to plant them. I hate digging into other bulbs.

Bonnie, that is exactly what I'll be doing. The days of just relying on memory are long gone, and even using pictures last year was difficult, since in fall everything looks so vastly different.

The garden does change completely from season to season. I think it is interesting to place a garden implement such as an old plow or big wagon wheel in the garden and take spring, summer, fall and winter photos of it. Some of my garden art is completely visible in the winter with bulbs blooming around them in the spring and by summer almost obscured by a rose bush or daylilies. I always try and remember where bulbs are planted but if you are off by three or four inches you are either planting on top of others, cutting into good bulbs or just planting too closely. This year.... gonna have a better plan.

Along these lines, I'm thinking since mine are naturalized I won't even be able to find a tag -- they would just be too hard to spot & besides that mowing takes place around August which will destroy tags I'm sure. So I think I've figured out what I will do when the time comes that I have to mark them. I thin if I spray fluorescent paint on the ground it should be visible in the fall when I need to find them. Anyone have any feedback on that idea? Good or bad - either way.

Ann, I don't think the paint will still be visible in the fall. How thick are the bulbs now? If the planting is still kinda sparse, you probably won't have too much trouble running into bulbs already there.

It was sunny and warm yesterday, which brought the first Hyacinths into bloom! The temps are dropping today and its rainy, but it still smells heavenly when I walk outside Smiling

So odd how the weather effects spring blooms. Splendid Cornelia Hyacinths above, are usually the first Hyacinths to bloom, typically by a week or more. Until this year, they have always started emerging really early, like December or January. Then by the time spring comes, they have typically sustained some injury, brown leaf tips, and sometimes the top buds are blackish and shriveled. With the cold and snow this year, they were later to emerge, still earlier than the rest, but in mid to late February this year. When we had our record breaking cold spells, they were under a lot of snow. This year they started opening just a day or two before Blue Jacket, and had no injuries from the cold. Here is a pic from last year, where you can see the injured leaf tips.

I'm loving seeing those great bunches of bulbs all over the place Neal. So pretty.

Well, I don't know what I was thinking. I don't need to mark them b/c when they begin to go dormant I can divide them while I can still find them. I was only thinking ahead to when they become thick & need dividing. See, I'm thinking positively & already envisioning them thick enough to need dividing.

Neal,

N. Orange Comet is gorgeous! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Love the colors together!

Lucky you for getting some at Brent and Becky's last Fall before they sold out of it! Hurray!

This year they're not offering it. Sad Thumbs down I wanted to get 5 bulbs of it, but I was too late last year.

How much land do you have down there where you live? Looks like a lot from the pics you've posted.

@Seedfork, Larry, I love how dainty your Wood Sorrel is, and the Amaryllis has such gorgeous color!

@gemini_sage, Neal, spring has arrived in Kentucky Hurray! I also love your clusters of blooming daffies. and hyacinths. I just started doing the smaller clusters this year. I previously tended to plant larger amounts of bulbs together, up to 25 at a time. When the time comes to divide the bulbs, I've been inspired by your pictures to do smaller clusters Smiling

It's a sad, sad, sad day in GA. I came home from work excited to take pictures. I discovered that the deer had found my tulips in my 2 front beds, and have started eating the big juicy buds of Tulip Moris Gudanov😩😩😩😩. I spent the evening putting my tulips in "jail". Thank goodness I had a lot of landscape mesh to place over the different areas where they're blooming.

Marilyn, Brent and Becky's is offering Orange Comet again, its listed under division 6, Cyclamineus, 5 for $7.70. I'm loving it! A sweet, stocky little thing! They have a new one in the same division with similar coloring, but a different bloom shape, called Winter Waltz- another I must have!

Thanks, Annette! I started out like you did, with larger quantities and planted in larger drifts, having so much space here that needed color. Nowadays I'm just adding Daffs in clumps of 5 bulbs, that I can easily fit between other plants, and those that prosper get divided in a couple of years, and get spread around into several little clumps usually, and sometimes some bigger drifts. I like echoing the same variety here and there in the garden. Those Ice King started out as 5 bulbs about 6 years ago, now I've got 6 or 8 clumps of them- love it when I can do that!

Thanks Neal for the info tip on both those varieties! I tip my hat to you. Thank You! Thumbs up

Didn't realize it, as I looked through the new catalog. Last year they had Orange Comet in the Large Cup division and I thought it was written as an all orange cup (last yr.), but this year looking at the pic and the desc., it looks like it isn't all orange. How do your flowers look that you have? I also noticed that they raised the price on OC. Last year it was 5 for $6.50 and this year it is 5 for $7.70. I also noticed that there isn't as many Large Cup varieties to pick from this year (as there was last year).

I'm interested in N. 'Classic Garden' (page 8). Scheeper's had it last year and it sold out before I could get some and B & B have it this year.
