Ann, I'll have some Z.grandiflora to send you, mine have multiplied like crazy.

Larry, I've had that issue with Clivia before, the blooms opened while the stem was short and the blooms were smashed between the leaves. Came to the conclusion the plant hadn't had enough cool treatment. But I didn't think Amaryllis needed cool treatment?

Marilyn, I think that first Glory of the Snow is Chionodoxa forbesii. Also think the pink one may be Chionodoxa forbesii 'Pink Giant'. I planted several of the pink last fall and they're about to bloom, when they do I'll post pics and we can compare. You got some gorgeous close up shots of them!

I love the way both Scilla and Chionodoxa increase by seed as well as bulblets. I'm seeing lots of little seedlings emerging around them this year- great to see they're starting to naturalize already!

Neal, I would appreciate that very much!

Amaryllis don't need any cool treatment. Down in Zone 10 Fl. we planted them directly in the yard & they bloomed like clockwork. The most we had to do to them down there was to lift them every few years as they tend to "sink" over time because there's nothing but sugar sand down there. Larry, I never had one do the short stem thing like yours is doing. I'm wondering if that one may just be an oddball. Did you say you had it in the house previously and it had a long stem in there or not? I can't remember.

flaflwrgrl,
No, I have never grown any Amaryllis inside the house, I did have someone tell me she had them in the house and that one of hers also had the problem of having the very short stem and large blooms.

That is particularly odd, as indoors the stems typically stretch from lower light.

Marilyn all your blooms are so pretty. It seems like things are really going at your house and more and more blooms coming.

Ann, so nice that you have found bulbs to replace ones I might grow that don't work down there. But blooms are blooms and you can make it so pretty.

My crocus that were under the snow are okay as the snow melted and they are still blooming! Big Grin

Rita, those appear to be Leucojum aestivum, Summer Snowflake. Very sweet bulb plant, here they bloom with late Tulips and look so pretty with them. There is an early blooming variety that I never see sold anymore, Leucojum vernum 'Carpathicum', that are blooming now at the Krone Conservatory in Cincinnati.

I believe this is the kind Betsy has, considering she's in zone 9

Last Fall I planted some of the Chionodoxa sardensis (Glory of the Snow) like you have, but they haven't come up yet.

Rabbits keep chewing the Twilight crocus, as soon as, they go from bud to flower. Sad Grumbling Beautiful color. Got them at Scheeper's. They're probably the only ones that carry them, I guess.

I've had my eye on Chionodoxa sardensis for a while now, that deep color looks beautiful. That's on my list for this fall, as is Twilight Crocus. Hope those darn rabbits let you see some blooms! I wanna see them too!

Daffodils are starting up here, Lent Lily always opens first, then February Gold. Those have been blooming for a few days now. Today Ice Follies, Tete a tete, and some large golden yellow trumpets started opening.

Thanks for the ID Neal, those really look pretty!

My Chionodoxa are only coming up now and only some of them depending on how sunny that spot is. I guess the others will come later.

Twilight crocus are not blooming here as yet. Fortunately there appear to be no bunnies around to bother anything.

February Gold is way behind this year with the cold winter. Not near blooming as yet.

Rita, Chionodoxa seem to have the odd habit of emerging sporadically, but eventually all come up and end up blooming at the same time. Last year I thought it had something to do with being their first year in the garden, and that they would all show up together this year. Not the case though, a few are flowering, a bunch are sprouting, and quite a few aren't up yet.

Well, that's been the case with the blue ones, but not the pink- those are all at the identical stage of development.

Humm, you know I think all the ones I am seeing already are only the pink ones. So that is something to think about. I tried to plant lots two years ago because I love that blue color. But I ended up with lots of pink ones. So maybe I should add more blue ones this Fall. Well, I will see how they look this spring after they all bloom and then decide.

I do prefer the blue ones.

I prefer the blue Chionodoxa over the pink ones also. Lovey dubby

Good thing I took those pics of the pink ones yesterday. Today, when I looked at my flowers earlier, I noticed the rabbits ate most of the ones and even the stems.

They only left the far "clump" on the left of the three "clumps". Grumbling (so far) On this pic below..... (this was taken yesterday)

My batteries ran out and I couldn't take pics of everything I wanted to. Can't even trim them until they're charged back up.

A few are opening here, with Blue Jacket Hyacinths and Ice Follies and Surfside daffodils. The blues are my favorites too, they look great with most other colors.

I agree I have also been enjoying everyone's photos, and I have to say to Neal and Marilyn that I now really have Crocus envy. I hope mine get a chance to naturalize.

Last fall I planted 100 each of Hyacinth City of Harrlem, along with Muscari botryoides Superstar, and Crocus Twilight. The crocus are done blooming, the muscari and Hyacinths are putting now on a show. Here's my my new bed that I put in last spring for peonies, edged by these bulbs.
