Bonehead said:Dave, is there a way to easily duplicate an entry, keeping the contact info/address/etc. for things with numerous events and just changing out the description? This one I just entered also hosts 3 other swaps later in the year. I'll await your response to see if there is a more efficient way to add those in.

This is ready. To clone an event, open up the event in question and scroll to the bottom and click on "Clone this event"

Just used the clone feature for the first time - works great and makes it easy to add a bunch of events by the same sponsor quickly and easily. I encourage everyone to take a bit of time now and again to add in local events put on by your favorite folks. (Thanks, Dave)

I'm so happy to see this being created and improved upon! I just contacted the Lake Placid Caladium Festival for more info about their event. Their website is not quite as informative as ATP. Hilarious! I've been talking it up on the Bulb forum but it would be nice to give it more exposure. Plus, I'm sure you all know Florida runs on tourist dollars! I'm also a member of the USF Botanical Gardens so I'll add their events, too. And Selby Gardens usually has some stuff going on. Plus, I know a lot of the clubs around here and when they have their events so I'll add those. Thanks to our weather, it seems like there's always something going on!

And an FYI, when you guys are at these events, especially plant shows, don't forget to take pictures! Plant shows are a great opportunity to see correctly labeled plants. Then, you can add them to the Plant Database and earn acorns! I was going through my old photos for stuff on the butterfly forum and I saw all these pictures I had of Bromeliads and African Violets from shows I had attended and added them to the database. In a lot of cases, I was the first one to add a picture to the plant entry because you often see rare or uncommon plants at shows. So have fun, but also remember to share a bit of it with us! And earn acorns! It's a win-win situation! Thumbs up

Okay, I just added my first event. I can't believe it, but it was a Daylily event (Daylily Mecca 2015). Nothing against daylilies, I just don't grow them and I think they show up in the "Random Plant" way too much. Anyway, I have a question about how to enter a location. The first time I tried I got an error. And I realized it wanted a specific city and state, at the very least. This event is taking place at eleven growers spread across Central Florida and I say that in the description, but for the city I chose one that had like three of the growers and seemed like a central location. So people can click on the website for more info and see where all the growers are, but I feel like I'm fudging the details a bit.

I know this is kind of an unusual situation, but what should we do when an event takes place at more than one location? I saw where one user had entered a garden tour of various gardens in Tyler, TX so they put Tyler, TX as the city and state. But if you have more than one city, how does that work? Just something to think about.

And not to be greedy, but it may encourage people to add more events if they get an acorn. Or half an acorn. Or something. I'm just saying adding these events takes as much time as adding a plant comment and way more time than uploading a picture. So I'm just throwing it out there.

I like the idea of awarding acorns for adding events, and I will do exactly that soon (I'll announce when that's ready.)

As for the location, if it's going on in multiple locations, you might be better off just putting "Central Florida" as the city and then Florida as the state, and that should work.

Something's not working. If I search using my zip for what may be closest to me, there are three events in Tyler. Two of those tell me they are 243 miles, but one says it's only 76 miles. The one is certainly incorrect. There is an event in Nacogdoches which also says it is 76 miles. I wish!

@mellielong, for the Daylily Mecca, many people stay at the Deltona Inn or near it as the Friday evening auction takes place there so perhaps Deltona FL can be marked as the central location.

Thanks Sue! I'll put Deltona as the locale. Sounds like a great event for Daylily enthusiasts!

Thanks for that report @needrain - I updated the GPS coordinates to the events in question and they should be coming up with the right distances now.

I just added the Caladium Festival in Lake Placid, FL and got 5 acorns! Oh my goodness! Wasn't expecting that so thank you, Dave! That should provide lots of encouragement for everyone.

And by the way everyone, we're having our annual Caladium Festival this summer. Yeah, it will be Florida in July but they have fields of Caladiums. Apparently, it's the Caladium capital of the world. Who knew? Keep adding to that calendar and show us what's special in your area!

Melanie, we have a caladium friend as well as ATP member - Caladium Bulbs 4 Less - & they are right here in FL in Lake Placid. They often provide prizes for the Not-A-Raffle-Raffles. See:

Quick questions: '

1. Is it acceptable to just copy verbatim the description included in the event, or should that information be put in quotations? I've done both, and/or I've also summarized their info if it was lengthy. What is the best practice?

2. Include or exclude fee information? If an event is free, that is simple enough. Some that charge fees are more complicated - one price if you are a member of their organization, another price for seniors, yet another for general public. If it is not real straight forward ($25 per person) I figure an interested person can just click on the web site to get further information.

Thanks, I really like this feature. Even those that are thousands of miles away are interesting to see, and perhaps I can work one in to future travel plans!

It's acceptable to copy verbatim their description. That's surely what the organizers of the event are hoping for. As for fee information, that would be good to add into the description if applicable.
