Gosh, I'm getting behind in all the posts... We were trying to get to the house in Carmel today. Some idiot w/ a tractor took out a gas line. They shut down Hwy 1 at Monterey. We went and had lunch, did some shopping... 3 hours later, we got there...

These are last year's pictures, but my Osmanthus delavayi is in bloom.. sweet scent too.

All great pictures! They help, I'm still out of jail! It got up to near 20 yesterday and then flurries all night, not much though. We have a week of rollercoaster weather coming. Up and down temps. More snow on Wed.

Sherry, is that gate photo entering or leaving? I love it! I've been seeing it as a view from your home or yard, curious if so?

Funny, I was thinking I couldn't get a good shot of the trees.
The gate goes over to the cottage's back yard. Here's a shot from the other side.
Thumb of 2015-03-01/Henhouse/03d1e0

Then it leads to stone stairs that go down to the road. This was taken about 2/3's of the way up.
Thumb of 2015-03-01/Henhouse/5bbc68

Allegedly, all the stonework was done over 100 years ago by Chinese laborers who had been brought here to work on the railroads. There are a whole series of paths and ponds in various states of disrepair on the property. It must have been a beautiful garden at one time. No one that has rented the cottage has been interested in even maintaining the yard. And so it goes....

Barbara, I felt like that for years, and still do from time to time, but one thing I appreciate about middle age is that I've come to realize that its the gardening journey that means most to me, rather than the end result. I used to long to see it all finished and complete, now I hope I never do.
