Thanks for the info Hetty!

Jonna I wonder if your local white is the Singapore White. I have another white variety that is King Kalakaua (not sure if I spelled it correct) that smells like gardenia. I have inflos but not yet open.

I think so, at least it is some relative of the Singapore white because it blooms and keeps its leaves all winter. Not a lot of blooms and not a lot of leaves, it doesn't put out new ones. Still, it stays green through the winter.

Yes, I do too. I am partial to the spidery ones.

This is also blooming but getting tall so this is last year's picture; one of my favorites from Australia, known as 'Oz White Pinwheel' (not all that white).

Hetty, can I cut back those two seedlings that are about 1 1/2 yr. old? One is now almost 6' tall and the other over 5'. They are just single-tips. Needless to say they are very healthy and growing like crazy.

You can, Ken, but you'll be sacrificing the potential blooms.

As you well know, Hetty, I can NEVER grow them as trees. I don't have the advantage y'all in paradise do. You said that I would never see a seedling bloom within three years, and I am only half way through that time frame. If that's true, and I have no doubt it is, I would not lose a bloom this year regardless. IF I don't cut these suckers back, the way they are growing, they will both be 8' tall by the fall! I have no place to put a plant that size for the fall/winter months.

Ok so take off the top and root that, I suppose.

We have completely different climates, Hetty, and thus different growing methods. There is nothing I can do to remedy that. Over the next month is the prime time of year for me to take cuttings and root them, so when I take my other cuttings I will include those two seedlings.

Look closely at the tip before you cut Ken. Who knows you might have a crown/inflo forming. My other seedlings are as tall as yours too with no inflo in sight but I do have the space for it so they can grow as tall as they want.

My hubby will disagree with me though because our front yard is now looking like a jungle Hilarious!

Hey, I only wish my yard could be jungle-like! Sighing! With all the orchids, staghorns, bromeliads, and tillandsia on shelves and hanging under my oaks and cedars, that part of the yard (back yard) sort of looks jungle-like, but in the fall, those trees are truly barren, no plants and no leaves.

Even though you said I would not see inflorescence for three years, I take a peak at those two "monsters" every day. Hope runs eternal, right? Thumbs up

You know, Hetty, I am always taking cuttings with inflorescences during the summer and I not only root them without problems but don't know that I have ever stopped flowering from occurring. Perhaps I am simply lucky or perhaps I grow more vigorous varieties. I don't know. It always amazes me to read that someone has had a plumeria (not a tiny seedling) that has never bloomed in five years. I have seen these comments dozens of times over the last couple of years. I just can't imagine waiting five years and never seeing a flower. Sort of like orchids, these plants are not exactly gorgeous when not in flower.

Not all plumeria are equally generous with blooms. Some bloom consistently every year, others are a bit more stingy (but worth having nonetheless because they are gorgeous when they do bloom!)

That is one gorgeous flower, Hetty. What is the variety? Is it one of those slow/takes-for-ever bloomers?
