I just checked on my Sarcoglottis, and it seems to have only one sad looking leaf going right now. It needs a new pot and a shot of fert at the very least! Do you have yours growing in your regular orchid bark mix, Ken? Yours all look gorgeous.

Mine actually started out in regular potting mix with coarse perlite added to open/drain better. That was a disaster, or at least I blamed my dead/dying plants on the media. Late summer I mixed 1/2 Douglas fir bark orchid media (medium) with that potting mix and repotted every single plant. So far the plants have done much better with that 50/50 mix. I do fertilize every week or so with 1/4-1/2 dilution of orchid fertilizer. The same thing happened with my vanilla orchids too, and they were all re-potted with that same 50/50 mix. Again, the same result. Lots of nice, vigorous growth. I will have to decide whether I want to re-stock those Sarcoglottis and planiflora plants this spring. I simply can't grow EVERYTHING I want, particularly when I am purchasing 98 seedlings of each variety/species at one time. I have 196 seedlings coming in on Friday! They are fiddle leaf ficus and staghorn fern seedlings.

Philip, welcome and lovely pics of your Bletillas. My ground orchids are all Spathoglottis now, sadly. I tried the Bletillas, two different kinds have petered out on me. I think they just don't get enough winter dormancy here, or they don't like the hot, humid summer weather.

Thanks Elaine,..our weather here suits them,..we get quite a lot of Wild Orchids growing here so i knew i was not planting in vain,..your Orchids are very healthy,..lots of blooms.

Thanks, Philip. I'm learning fast that "only the strong survive" here, as I'm growing mine outdoors in Florida.

It will be interesting how my Bletillas are doing in this bitter cold Winter. They are well mulched, and against the house wall, but even that has its limits.

Ken, your Sarcoglottis sceptrodes look very healthy, truly wonderful, Thumbs up it will take a few more weeks before you see those crazy creatures. Mine is not spiking yet.

Elaine, your Den nobile is very pretty, and you are right - it is close to mine, but not exactly.

And, how did we ever fit "going to work" into our busy schedule?? Whistling

I don't think I am going anywhere today!
Here is the Lc Mini Purple 'Shibuya', thought I include a couple of snow pictures too.

Very, very pretty, Ursula! And beautifully mounted as well! Thumbs up

I've got several Phals blooming now, but only this one has an ID...Phal 'Sogo David'...Opened it's 1st bloom, with several more to come. Smiling
Funny thing about this one...I had him mounted last Spring on some drift wood, and he never was happy, or even started attaching roots, so I moved him back into a pot, and he seems so much happier. Blinking Shrug! Oh well...Growing like crazy now!

That's a really pretty one Tara. Love the markings and color combo. Yes, Phals are divas and sure will pout if they don't like their situation.

Hilarious! It's funny...Of all my Phals, this one, with the ID, seems to be the only that I have, that will 'pout' when not happy. All the others seem to not care one way or the other. I think that is why I never gave much credence to calling Phals "divas", but boy, this one sure is! Hilarious! It's worth it though. I love the color combo on it too! Smiling Phals seem to be some of the easiest for me to grow... Shrug!

I've had a few blooming this month. I'm ashamed to admit that I've been neglecting them. I absolutely must get out there and repot some of them - they're horrendous.

Elfie, I don't what you are talking about!
The Ludisia discolor is gorgeous. And yes the Cattleya is walking a bit out of its basket, that's why it look so beautiful and happy! I find that most large Cattleyas bloom better when they start walking over the edge of their pots or basket, or simply outgrowing them. They are after all epiphytes.
Nice Paph too!
I see super clean and healthy leaves, if this is what neglect looks like, I would say, go for it! Thumbs up
