rivada said:Hi! I'm Autumn May and I'm a new homeowner/hostaholic. I live in MI on half an acre and have a shade garden just ten feet long that I have filled with hostas! Something about their quiet grace is beautiful to me.

Autumn -- rude of me not to say Hello, and I have to admit... i love your "Quiet Grace" comment ... how absolutely true.

Greetings, Stephanie and Autumn May! Welcome to the group. We're pleased to be able to feed your addictions. Sticking tongue out

Stephanie, lovely photos of your daylilies and the butterfly in the monarda!

Autumn, I agree with Terese--"quite grace" is a wonderful observation, and so true.

Thanks for the ID. I thought the name was familiar. I bought it many years ago and have divided it and it is in two places in the garden.

This last one is a sun tolerant yellow one I bought from a florist. It's about 3 years old and I like it a lot. Unfortunately I lost the name tag.

Hello, I've been lurking for awhile. I started my collection about 6 years ago and had only about 10 until last year. Now I probably have about 20 and plan on ordering more soon. It's so dry here that I haven't seen a single snail on the hostas and not many pill bugs either. My enemy is either white flies or mealy bugs.

Hi Terese! I hope things are well with you. Unfortunately Ginko Craig bit the dust. I had a guy cut my grass last fall and he blew all the leaves into the street which is exactly what I told him not to do. So anyway the leaves that I always use for mulch on almost everything were thrown away. When spring came I had 6 empty hosta pots.:( Four of them were hostas I'd had for a long time and 2 were very new.

Oh, I have no doubt of that.:) There's never any shortage of help for that. Every time I order hostas I put them in glasses of water in the kitchen until I can get them in pots. My hubby comes home as says "more hostages"?

Yes, I keep hearing about his plants. I can't order yet though. Can't spend money on more hostages til we get the taxes paid.:( I think I can order next week though. What did you order Christine? And did you order any in 4 " pots? It sounds like the ones in 4" pots come still in the pot.

Glad you appreciate my hubby's humor. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me from pulling my hair out in the awful economy and miserable drought. He always sees the funny side of everything.:)

Hi Folks,

I'm just arriving. I think we're the "Hostages"!

Too much southern sun limits my shade gardening, but I satisfy the Hosta urge with miniatures. I have a select few others. Most of them were liner plugs I got for a friend who decided she couldn't wait to grow them out, and, now that they're bigger, I'm ... attached!

My second passion is large-flowered Hostas. I'm desperate to find Oh My Heart, but I haven't had the first whiff of anyone actually growing it.

Fukurin arrived last fall and is just getting ready to show off its double lilies. Otherwise, it's the plantaginea group. I had a couple of moves several years ago and lost some. I'm down to the species, Fried Bananas and Stained Glass, but Diana Remembered will be here soon.

I'd give my ... well, a good trade for Venus, Aphrodite or a well colored Athena!

Mini Hosta lovers, please have a look at my Trade List on DG. I have more than are listed, but they're not ready for dividing.

Hello Everyone! I'm a newbie to this site too. Found it by googling Hostas and so glad I found you. I live in East Central Iowa, started out 10 years ago with perennials and the last four years started getting into Hostas. I found my true love HOSTAS!! I started when my friend gave me her overruns, I now have the bug or I guess the Hosta Fever. I do have some that I don't know the names and would love to get Identified. I love the big hostas, some of my favorites are Dick Ward and Alex Summer. I did get this year Empress Wu can't wait for it to grow!!!.

Welcome Robert and Brrejr!!!

Glad you have found us here -- there is a thread where we all post what we have (http://cubits.org/Hostas/threa...) -- and ZZTopsoil has a hosta secret swap getting started if you wanns join!!! Thumbs up

I just got Athena and Aphrodite this year (from my favorite Hosta guy - Ed Thaubald - Bentley Gardens) and can give you an eye probably next year if it takes off here (as it should). Ed may be able to hook you up with both Aphrodite and Athena!! I don't have Venus (but I have a Venusta) Big Grin
