I feel really stupid. I've been posting on other Hosta threads here, but never introduced myself. I see some DG friends are here. Hi ladies.
My name is Diana and I live 60 miles west of Chicago out in the DeKalb county boonies. I'm originally from the St. Charles/Geneva, IL area, but bought out here in 1991 where we could afford to have 5 acres. Our daughter had 2 horses and we needed a place where she could keep them. She's since then moved to her own place, but the boys stayed here. Of course, good old mom and dad were happy to take care of them. 19 years later, we still have one left. He's just a pasture ornament now and a pet.
I worked at a particle physics laboratory for 20 years, 14 of those years I commuted 70 miles a day. I retired in 2005, but still do some oncall work for the lab when they need me to draw prairie flowers for the Science Center's K-12 prairie program website. I miss the people I worked with for 20 years. Some of us still get together on special occasions.
Most of the plantings in my yard are Hostas and Daylilies with a scattering of Peonies, Iris, and other perennials, and ornamental trees. The place was just lawn when we moved here. For a house built in 1906 you would think there would have been something. It's now a jungle. I like it that way.
Although I label all my Daylilies, about 130 varieties, I'm bad about labeling the Hostas, maybe 20 varieties only. I have to keep track of the Daylilies though because of trades and sales.
Well, that's me in a nutshell.
Diana
