They won't be in water. It's a storm run off that runs down to a lake behind us. There is only water after a storm. Plus they are going to line the edges of the rock so they won't be in water.

That should look awesome lined with J. iris!! I am just thrilled to add Lion King this year. I hope you heal quickly.

It was so HOT today that I only watered newly planted iris and went visiting to some relatives with Mom.

Wow. Impressive work on the creek!!!

I have cleaned up and thinned out the front garden. A lot more needed dividing than I thought. Only a couple more new iris to plant in there.

I planted daylilies I was given after amending the soil, so they should survive. I dug up and old bed of historic lavender noID. I amended the soil and replanted some of the rhizomes. It took all day between feeding the kids.

Any tips on keeping cats out of newly planted iris beds Angry I know the should be planted shallow but does anyone make a mound and then put more onto the top until they get their roots going?

I use rocks to keep the deer from trampling / hold them in place , when they are new and the soil is still soft. I just place a rock or a brick on to till they are firmly locked in and most of the time leave it there all winter since I try to avoid upheaval from the freeze and thaw.

I keep the soil a little moist and it keeps the cats away. They don't like to dig in wet dirt. A week of that and they don't seem to come back to 'investigate' there.

Instead of a brick/rock, I cut a piece of wire and shape it as a "U" and pin the rhizome into place. I have a variety of wildlife that tramples through my garden all day...every day. That wire helps hold them in place when they get stepped on, kicked, or partially dug up. You don't have to worry about forgetting the wire, it usually rots away in a year (in wet conditions). In our very dry times here, I did find and remove several wires from last season.

I started planting early this year. I planted around 25 potted irises yesterday and plan to do more today.

I planted a potted Siberian iris this morning in one of the Iris gardens. Unfortunately, I had to kneel on pebbles/stones, and tore open my knee, so because I'm a Diabetic/Heart patient and on numerous medications to prevent clotting, I won't stop bleeding. Ugh! Oh well, the Iris got planted

Cayenne pepper stops bleeding. Go outside before sprinkling it so you can walk away from it.

One of my favorite things for the garden is a 3" to 4" x 20 "piece of foam. I sit on it, but you can kneel on it, it keeps me off the dirt and small rocks.
