Today I decided to take the bus to the beach. There was a 40 minute wait before it would be here, so I dug a new circle in the lawn for the "Burgard" irises. While I was out there, I saw the RoundUp weed control cart spray the sidewalk in front of my house. I got to chase and yell at them in my bathing suit. I don't think they will be spraying their evil pharmakeia in front of my house again. Rolling on the floor laughing

It was a beautiful day at the beach. Maybe I will have a cup of coffee and finish that garden.

I agree

I didn't do much of anything in the garden today. I'd gotten a tip
on an available calico kitten at the animal shelter in Ukiah...zipped on over there,(45 miles)
plunked down my 25. plus another 25. for her spaying, and I'll bring her home on
Tuesday.
I've been missing my wonderful calico, Zoe, who passed away last month from cancer at
age 15+ years. This kitty, that I've named Madeline, looks very much like her. Pretty
as a multi-color iris! And she purrs!

When I got home from work I dug up all my Acoma and the two huge clumps of Quaker Lady in my front garden. They really needed separating and I really needed to add new soil. Some of the existing soil under the rhizomes was as hard as rock! Got the invasive pine roots and stuff out of the bed, added a whole lot more soil than expected. It was pretty low without the iris in there!!

Separated all the Acoma, and planted one major rhizome with two increases. I will put two more back in this garden. Then I started on the Quaker Lady clumps. Holy moly. They came out as the entire clump and the rhizomes were layered all over each other. It looked like they were molded together until I sprayed them with a very strong spray of water. Slowly the rhizomes and mini clumps were able to be coaxed apart. I ended up with a whole lot of rhizomes and I only got one of the two clumps done before the sun set!!! Whew!
All this massive growth was in 3 years! Since the Ladies have been in this yard since the 40's (prior owner planted them) I would feel bad not keeping a decent amount of them, but still I think I have enough to make a fence out of!! Many are going to a friend in Michigan who will sell them at her garden shop for a fundraiser. But I will have enough for one or two other people too if there is anyone who wants some of this graceful plant for postage.

Nice job!

Some day I should probably add Acoma. Seems everyone loves it. I have Quaker Lady. So she is going to make quite a presence is she?

I got my new circle in the lawn planted. Also planted some daylilies that have been sitting in a plastic bag for over 2 weeks. They are noIDs from the swap, very smelly and very pretty, were blooming early August. Ugh, the mini campanulas I bought had an outer pot with no holes. They were drowned almost rotten and look horrible. Good thing the center looks viable. They got planted.

Well -- first -- sympathies on the loss of Zoe. Fifteen years is a long time -- but it's never long enough when we love our pets. So sorry for your loss. Group hug

And second -- Hurray! What's better than a calico kitten? Not much! We will be waiting for pictures of Miss Madeline! Lovey dubby

Didn't do much in the garden.. It was too freaking hot.. I stayed in and pushed around pictures of Iris trying to find the right combination for a bed in the veggie garden.. My mow and blow guy took out a big prickly pear cactus a couple months ago and brought in good soil a couple of weeks ago.. I've got room for about 15-17 and am working with warm colors..

Yesterday we planted the 2nd MTB seedling returned from convention. It grows better here than the sibling; rust colored sibling seemed to grow better in OR. We will see how they do over the winter.

I am glad that the new kitten seems friendly. A good start.

Sherry, your new bed sounds like it will be vibrant with warm colors. I only have Oil Painting, Terra Cotta Bay and English Charm - all planted this year.
Thanks for all the kitty comments - don't mean to turn this into a cat thread, but I do miss her,
especially in the garden. She was so decorative...and sweet.
