Lilli, I wait to plant tulips here too, after the soil has cooled, and I've noticed better performance from them. When planted early I used to see sprouts in early winter, which would get damaged by extreme cold later. They still bloomed fine, but the leaf tips were brown and ugly and the stems weren't as tall.

Yes, that has happened to me too, so just one more reason to wait. As long as I get it done before we get too much hard frost. Don't really fancy using a pick-axe to dig holes for the last couple of 100s! Big Grin

The weather here in N.CA is mild today - Between the rain showers. So I'm heading out to putter a bit. Make some more labels, too.

It has turned back into rain now. I hope this little episode isn't an indicator of a harsh winter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and dreaming of clumps of irises smily: Smiling

So hate winter as well - wish I could blink it away too!

We have had rainy/misty weather lately, with no change in sight according to the weather guys. Not seeing the sun really gets me - I posted this pic on the rose forum.

Not much happening in the iris garden lately. I have been walking round with my little spray bottle of bleach solution - caught three iris with soft rot just in time but with this wet weather it is difficult for them to dry out. Just have to keep an eye on them.

Rain predicted for tomorrow. We really need it. The garden has died down for the winter. In the 40sF today.

I finished planting the little ones in their bed. We're supposed to get some rain over the next couple of days. So I wanted to get that bed done before then.

My throat hasn't fully recovered from its illness, so I haven't been out cheching and unburying any rhizome tops. It has rained a great deal. I wouldn't normal worry about except for after reading the goner's thread. 'Mariposa Wizard' is on moving along nicely. 'Rosalie Figge' is on her last bloom, five this fall with a sixth one that didn't fully develop.

No reblooms here, but I did manage to sow another 150 or so iris seeds, only two crosses left in the fridge now, so almost done with the sowing! Smiling

Still trying to do clean-up here. 50° outside so perfect for that.

I got a good pic of the fragrant sumac this morning. Much as I hate winter, I do love the colors!

And you have money trees next to the sumac!!! I sure miss those. We had them on the sand dune next to our house in Michigan. Along with Chinese Lanterns and sumac.

Leslie, I've got lots of money plant and can send you seeds if you'd like. They bloom with IBs here and make a great combo plant.

Celia, that is a gorgeous photo! I'm like you, hate winter but love the fall colors.
