I used plaster of Paris bandage for the mould. It's sold under the brand name Modroc and is the same stuff hospitals use. You can see at the front where the head sank down by a couple of inches and the head leans forward .
Next time I'll use fibreglass which should be more rigid . Plaster of Paris is only meant to be used once and is normally just torn off the model . I might be able to use it again hopefully. The blemishes on the face can be filled in with pure cement and smoothed.

Here are some head containers I made a few years ago. I can't remember the company name that made the molds anymore, but somebody told me they no longer offer them.

You make the face part our of cement (I used Qwikwall) and embed a terracotta pot in the back. I have some painted ones and some unpainted ones. Not all have beads glued on them either. Obviously the terracotta pot does have a drainage hole.

I would be willing to sell some if anybody is interested. I'd have to figure out a cost, and since they're cement, they're heavy to ship. Let me know if anyone wants to see pictures of some I have available.

Sounds like the kit I got off of Amazon this summer when they were selling out on some of the kits. Mine is a greek god head (which is what I wanted) that you embed a terracotta pot in the back, have not had time to use it but was excited to even find one available. I have not had extra time to use my kit, but am glad to see the results of your kit.

I have a male head too, just no pictures of it. They're super easy to make!

Thanks Chris! I am thinking of using one of the faux cement mixes as it would be lighter in weight making it easier for me to move them around.

I spotted these today in a local garden centre . €60 each I won't be buying anyway. Work continues on making my own unique head planters.

The seller "gostatue" on eBay has a lot of face molds. Some of us at DavesGarden used them along with a clay pot to make planters. I'd suggest looking at them at DG in the concrete forum for ideas. I've bought a lot of molds from gostatue and find her very good to deal with. With a mold for $10 or so and a clay pot you can get started and do a lot of playing for very little investment.

I'm new here at ATP but saw this thread and decided to contribute what I can. katie

I will have to check it out again, but I remember reading somewhere that you can use the Styrofoam heads (which you can buy at places like Hobby Lobby); cutting the top off and hollowing out a little; then covering in cement. I've bought the head; just got to find the article again and find the time to do it !!
