Posted this of Vesper on May 3rd and then same branch today, minus that first open bloom.

Beautiful!

Sue, what is the average diameter of the blooms of Vesper? Looks to be charming sprays of smallish blooms- love it.

only roses I have blooming are the ones I've planted this year, so they don't count. But my lilacs are wonderful. It's been raining steadily almost for 12 hours now.. a small gentle soaking drizzle. When I planted the 3 I picked up @ Safeway, the ground was wet over a foot down! That's wonderful!! Yay!

Anyways, some of my lilacs.

Thanks Sue, I need to keep my eyes open for that one. Data base says it is hardy to zone 6.

Toni, I love your lilacs! The panicle on President Grevy looks huge!

Neal - It actually *is* very large.. almost a foot long and a good 8" around at the base. These bushes had bloomed last year, but this year has been a MUCH better blooming time due to the amount of snow we'd gotten in Feb/March. I'd put them in the ground (they were little 5gal buckets from Home Depot) 2 years ago (2013), so they're still fairly young plants.

Wow Toni, that's a lilac I need! I have the others but not Grevy. My Sensation is just now opening up, and the others have been finished for 2 weeks.
Sue, those burnt orange colors on the roses are scrumptious. I have a few iris with those colors--one is exactly the color of a fall sunset. I'll try to post a pic.

Cindi - I can pick you up a little one @ Home Depot if you want.. they're very available this year with that cultivar.

a break between the storms, so did more trimming. Found a couple more dead roses Sad But my list of dead is less than 10 as of so far, which is pretty gosh-darned good IMO! About 1/2 way through the back yard.. just another.. 60? more roses to go! Then starts the weeding.. and weeding.. and weeding.. and more weeding.. I can't believe how long some of these tap roots on stinking thistles & clover really are! Yikes!

DDorphins - (why do I keep wanting to say DirtDolphins? LOLL!!) It's been raining almost every day for the past 2 weeks. We're under flood watches/warnings here. I don't mind it personally because I have sooooooooooo much mulch on my yard (some areas it's over a foot thick), but for the most part, we've gotten almost all year's worth of moisture in the past 2 weeks. Everything's fully leafed out & growing.. and now snow? This is going to do a LOT of damage to the trees (we already lost our fruit crop due to a late freeze that killed all the flowers off the peach / cherry trees on the Western Slopes). I don't know how bad this going to affect my roses.. some of my roses were almost a foot tall!!! Some of my minis.. actually most of my minis had buds on them... *sigh* Crying Crying Crying Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Angry Angry Angry
