So glad you posted, Evan, I thought this thread was dead.

I have a of question, my Borneo giant keeps making flowers. Are they any good or should I cut them off?

If you want them to grow faster w/larger leaves; yes. Cut them off as they appear.

That's a pretty one, Evan. Mine on Blue Hawaii are similar, but longer and narrower, and really don't open much. I was about to snip this one off, but . . the camera was in my hand so:

Glad you snapped a pic Elaine. I don't think I've seen a photo before. Would you mind adding it to our DB? Elephant's Ear (Colocasia esculenta Royal Hawaiian® Blue Hawaii)

I think Elepaio is a beautiful plant too and it's sending up several pups so I can save you one.

Hm, d'you think it matters that the leaves in the picture are not those of the Blue Hawaii? They are my Passiflora quadrangularis, that has gone wild in that area just recently.

I can't snap another pic, because I did cut that flower off.

It doesn't bother me, it's pretty clearly a Colocasia bloom and petioles.

Ha, if you could see how far it's climbed up into my 35ft. bamboo clump . . . now it's weighing down the culms and they are leaning out of the clump in a very annoying manner.

It's got gorgeous huge fragrant flowers, true, but I was hoping for the football-size fruit at some point. Now 4yr. into the experiment, I've arrived at the conclusion that we just don't have the right pollenator.

They're the only reason I haven't composted the whole thing before now. Soon, though!

Tried that too, with a little paint brush, while the flowers were still in reach. But your article does mention a time frame, "no less than 4 to 6 hours after the flowers open" which might have been the factor that dictated my failure.

Maybe what I'll do is wait for the next bloom cycle, then cut down the bamboo culms that have the vine c/w flowers on it and mess with pollinating with my little paintbrush again . . . If it works, I will post for sure! Meanwhile, I'll have to do something with those vines while I wait for the fruit to mature . . . never a dull moment around here!
