Gotta say BYE to my Borneo Giant and all my other babies.....I'm moving to Chicago. Yes, you read right, to Chi-Town I go. My husband passed away almost 2 months ago so I have decided where I'm going. It's four blocks from my daughter and I am so excited. I leave here the 15th. I bought a place on the Gold Coast and it's beautiful. All windows. So I will see what grows there. Maybe a BGiant. I'll keep in touch.

Hugs

Happy, are you taking any plants with you? I ink a Borneo Giant would look grat on your balcony umpteen stories above the street. I forgot how far up you are, for some reason I am thinking you said 36th floor. Did I dream that number?? LOL

Please excuse the errors. I am on the iPad and it has it's own agenda sometimes. Green Grin!

Happy I spent 25 years in Chicago. I have spent a lot of time in a lot of places and to my mind Chicago is the finest city in the world..... and that comes from a southern boy born and raised in Georgia. Go Bears!!!

Hm, I dunno Anna. It IS called the 'windy city' for good reason. A Borneo Giant would probably either shred to tatters or take flight off the 36th floor terrace. Unless she keeps it inside all those windows!

So sorry for your loss, Hap and hope you will be as happy in Chicago as you've been in Florida.

Yes, it is the 36th floor and what a view.

No I'm not taking any plants. Mine are all tropical and would not make it there at all. Plus they are all in the ground, full grown. I plan to get a couple of palms for the living room at Home Depot. They have them there cheap enough, of course to as cheap as they are here. But, welcome to the big city! That 9.5% tax is going to kill me. I'm used to 6%.

Just thinking. Could I chop off all the leaves on my BGiant, transplant it and let it grow again? But I would have to replant on the 36th floor and drag dirt up there. The storage is limited as you can well imagine.

Well, off to make my coffee.

Toodles

It will be 2 yrs. old on 9-21-14 (at least since i started growing it). Bought it from LariAnn as a small pup (about 12-14''). It is suppose to grow Ginormous. She said it got a lot bigger than regular Portora. It took me three yrs. to get a 4' leaf on regular Portora.

That leaf looks like it may have some stretching to do yet? Hopefully you'll get a few more leaves before it needs to be taken in. Thumbs up

With nighttime temps in the low 60's - high 50's we're pretty slow this year. It was 46F the night before last, which I wouldn't expect until mid September.

Evan, those all look great! I gave my neighbor across the street one of the Thai Giant bulbs. Her's has few, but huge, leaves. I didn't plant mine right away. One has many leaves that are nothing special. One of the other Giants was already sprouting when I got around to planting it. One of the side bulbs fell off, so I planted it in a separate pot. It has one huge leaf! The rest of the bulb is up and I'm hoping that it will have bigger leaves. My neighbor is soooo tickled that her leaves are bigger than mine!

I have leaf envy all the time Green Grin! Let the TG wars begin. Added to the temps I was late planting a few things.

The yard guy is moving to South Carolina where he purchased 5 acres. He sheepishly asked me if he could take me up on previous offers of banana and ears. He's happy, I'm happy. I don't really know why he wants M. basjoo because he should be able to find some edible naners for SC, shouldn't he?

Well, maybe he can find bananas in SC, but not expertly grown...and free! Whistling
