Today for sale I found some flower seeds from the 1960s. I am 99% sure they won't germinate but I am going to try this spring just to see what will happen.

Beautiful plant! @Amberpaige

It got out late today and cut down the white butterfly ginger. Someone on here said it was easier to cut it down before a freeze to avoid the mushy stuff. Made sense to me. So I cut it alllll down. Then I piled it up on the Spiderplant border to help protect it from the cold tonight. Tomorrow I will double the cover with sheets but that was all I had time for. Seems it's going to get colder tonight than first predicted. I covered the banana, ti plant, gingers and Giant Crinum. The rest are on their own until I can get to them tomorrow.

In the process I stepped on a sort of nail. It was a decorative iron butterfly that you nail into wood. Well, it fell off the post and my foot found it. Wasn't wearing my trusty gardening shoes but flip flips instead. It HURT! I spent 1/2 hr. irrigating it and getting the puncture to bleed out the debris. It appears I had good reactions because I could have gone in 1/2" but didn't. I must of lifted the weight off my foot when I felt the pain. And as we all know, foot pain is always magnified so I'm sure I felt it fast. It's all bandaged up and compressed to stop the bleeding. Had a Tetanus booster in 2015 (and every year with a "5" in it) so I feel pretty good about it. But I will keep and eye on it.

I had posted about one corn plant surviving and started getting ears in November. Just today an ear fell off from the cold and rain rotting the Stem, as you can see the corn tried to grow and was alive (husk still green)! Truly amazing! It was sweet corn.

Oh! What's that?! ....oops...
Ugh. It's currently 4 degrees right now. We are hoping to get into the double digits for a high today, but it may not happen. We got more snow here Saturday night. I'm not even keeping track of the amount now. Lol I just let it be.
I can only see a rip of one blueberry plant and a piece of one grape vine. All else has simply disappeared.

Britnay, you have my deepest sympathy. I don't know how y'all live in weather like that. By the way, you need a "winter" avatar. You'll never survive dressed the way I see you. Rolling on the floor laughing

73 here this morning. Suppose to be 80 today and on Christmas weekend it will be 60 lows and 83 high. Not my ideal Christmas weather, but my heart does go out to some in the weather I was seeing on TV this morning. Very widespread. I thought it was cold there too Ken.

I guess I need to take shorts and T-shirts when I travel down to St. Pete/Sarasota for our bowl game, huh?

At 8:00 AM it was 22F and I have on two sweat shirts, (light) insulated long johns, blue jeans, and fur-lined moccasins. I also put on a heavy, insulated jacket just to put the garbage out and pick up the papers, a trip outside that probably takes 90 sec. My old body just can't take the cold anymore. Crying

We are in the St. Pete Bowl vs. Miami of Ohio, on the 26th., Pam. If y'all are going to get up to 83, I would imagine St. Pete will at least be that warm. The game is played inside though, in the Devil Rays domed stadium, so inside should be nice and coolish.

It's a good thing my daughters were home visiting yesterday. They helped me cover up the last of the plants. The rusty nail puncture in my foot has stopped me from walking. I've always said, "I wouldn't be Cheryl if I didn't at least have a Bandaid on!" But this is not the time of year to not walk! I have my 10 year old well-used, knee cart and crutches if need be. I went out to supervise the plant covering seeing how both my girls are not gardeners. But they had seen me do it over the years. Of course, I had to try to help while on my knee cart, and tipped over on the uneven surface, adding bruises and more soreness to my other injury. Sighing!

I am getting better slowly. Had a tetanus booster just last year. But it really is no fun to be inconvenienced! But I did spend the day in front of the fire watching movies with DDs. That was fun. I can't believe they never took the time to watch the Sound of Music or Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Two of my favorites!
