Mark better put a stocking around it. The seedpods will open when you least expect it,

What variety is that?

Yay pod!! Hurray! When it starts to crack I usually cut it off, help it to fully crack (twist it a bit) and then put it in a dry warm place where it will usually open by itself.

Mark, no doubt about it! Your experiment is successful since you got a seedpod. Maybe if you remember your process, you can start a thread about plumeria hybridizing. Then you can post your progress with your seedling. It will be quite interesting to see what comes out from your experiment.

I know that would spark your interest Ken...like me Whistling Whistling

My last year's seedpods were pollinated by natural insects (presumably a moth, according to the experts), and who knows what will come out of it. I know the parent plants were Barbados Showgirl also sold as Confetti.

I will take care of the seedlings properly this time, maybe I will be lucky like Ken and mine will bloom in 14 months. Hurray!

Ken, you have a greenhouse, for as long as you leave a blooming plumeria through the end of your season and you have. A curious enough moth, there is a possibility that you can have a seedpod.

Alas, I cannot possibly grow these plants in either of my greenhouses. They are so jam-packed with plants, there is just no room. I do have two alternatives though.

I build a temporary, 6'x8' greenhouse in my garage just for overwintering plumeria, and there is a west-looking window that is at one end of the greenhouse. I could put a couple of plants in front of the window and keep them lightly watered. There is also the new sunroom that should be finished before fall. I could do the same thing there. The problem is that there is little or no possibility of moths getting into either structure. I would have to hand-pollinate and don't have a clue how to do that/when to do that. I wonder if those moths are around now and will do that job. I have several plants in bloom and more to come. I just don't know when the flowers are pollinated.

I used an old bag avocados come in, saved from Cinco de Mayo. I like the red label to call my attention to it so i won't forget.

It was about 1" last fall/October when I moved it into the Gh for the first frost. That is only 1/2 of the pod. The other half is much greener. The Slow Twin.

I guess you simply get your plumeria outside much earlier in late winter/early spring than I am able to do. I guess an additional month means everything when it comes to having plumeria grow those pods. I bring all mine in anywhere from mid-October to mid-November, depending on the frost date. Typically, by late October, they are brought in though.

I agree I net up mine before it splits.

One of my seedpod came off on a no ID pink, then I found a seedpod on my Sinfapore White,,,let's see if it holds.

Ken, do you think stunting your tree growth, it would concentrate on growing and not reproducing?? Want some seeds , anyone? I probably won't be planting any or only a few. I don't have the patience to wait. This is the 20+ year old NOID White that came from Hawaii. The last time a pod opened, the seeds were pretty large.

You may be on to something, Cheryl. Perhaps by my keeping the plumeria a manageable size, I am preventing them from growing any pods.

Do you think your HI NOID is the Celadine? One of my original, 25 year old cuttings was the Celadine. The Celadine has a very distinctive leaf pattern on its outer border. I don't know of any other plumeria that shows this pattern. Take a few good close-ups of the lateral portion of a large leaf and we'll know.

I will definitely keep you in mind Hetty,. Thumbs up I hope this too much rain will not let the seedpod come off. I am curious what would come out of it. It was blooming next to Thai Mango Brush, Dwarf Singapore, Aussie Orange and Puu Kahea. (Keeping my fingers crossed that the seedpods will not fall off. I think too much rain was the reason of the demise of my seedpod on a hot pink no ID plummie.)

Hmm, Mark what is the parent of these seedlings? If from last year that should at least be over a foot from now.

In your time zone you can probably grow them tell Sept or October.
