Yeah, The "Victory Garden" thing is something I *hope* this country never need to do again ! Although the "concept" could be re purposed for filling food pantries, *free lunch* programs, and the like.
Well, Dave, they gotta' eat, too, you know ! My Dad always used that old saying, "Plant one for the worm, and one for the crow, one to pull out, and one to grow!"

My granny said 'one for the worm, one for the crow, one to share and one to grow'. She also said the best thing to have in a garden is the gardener's shadow. It took me a bit to figure that one out. I think she intended that.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?

We have a big vegetable garden here in N.CA. and justify some water usage with the fact that
we'll be eating vegetables grown in California anyway...they might as well be ones from our garden.
We're lucky that we live in a small, fertile valley - and one to which many disillusioned city kids are
flocking with dreams of having small farms, and a healthier life style. Gardening ideas abound. Our local public radio station also
has a show devoted totally to gardening. In the summer, at least half of our food comes from our own garden.
I've posted pictures of the irises I'm growing on my Facebook page - so many friends have never seen the
modern irises and want to grow some. Maybe there will be enough folks to start an iris society!

Thanks, Bonnie. My "movement" days are mostly over, but we can always hope.
I have to say that the beauty of irises has helped pull me through some rough patches
in the past year - the loss of my mother, for instance. Focusing on the irises has helped a lot.
I grow enough veggie to feed me and half the county. Honestly, I don't know why I have to grow so much, but I love doing it, and the food pantry loves my extras.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.
I know they are in Alabama, but I don't think that is quite right..... Goddard! You are in Maryland! Oh please don't let them explode that poor little devil bear in a rocket! I have visions of bear stuffing fluff falling from the sky.... Nooooo. Run bear run!
