I've never heard of using Listerine for that, Chelle -- I was more picturing everyone being given their own can of "Deep Woods Off" as a wedding favor... Sticking tongue out

Let me know if you try the Listerine and it works, though -- we are getting desperate here!

I ave heard of people using that, but have wondered how it affects the grass. We have a neighbor who uses the dish soap mixture and it works really well. You could just goggle for that recipe and others might come up as well.

That was my concern, too.

I'll check it out. Thanks!

With all of this rain the transplanted squash I pulled from the rock garden is climbing already! Transplant shock is very minimal in this weather. I like that aspect of it. Big Grin

Here's part of our moat this morning. Rolling my eyes.

It continues leftward toward the lake, and also out of sight to the right, the playground is under water as well.

According to Snopes, neither the Listerine nor the dish soap do much good...

I doubt anything is going to be effective in the rain anyway. Hopefully, the bride and groom will be amenable to moving their festivities indoors, although fitting all the guests inside the house is going to be interesting.

So I finially planted my beans just today. Nothing like being slightly late! Thing is I used my usual "Bean Towers" (which are just fancy sturdy tomato cages) for tomatoes. So after I weeded the area and it was ready kept thinking how am I gonna set this up?

Well. went for ready simple and made some bamboo teepees. Low teck but it will do the job. Planted Black Seeded Blue Lake Pole Beans on them.

Next to them planted three rows of Hildora Bush Beans. Have room for three more rows of Bush Beans for succession planting in a few weeks. I have planted Bush Beans as late as September and they always crop so no worries.

Planted these varieties because I have plenty of seeds. Still have plenty of seeds after my planting. But at least my beans are in at last!

I just came in from giving the asparagus patch a good weeding... chickweed (among other things) everywhere!! DH is out mowing right now, so I'll have some nice mulch to put there and maybe won't have to do much more weeding in that spot, at least. Next up -- get my garlic weeded out Sticking tongue out

My garlic is getting yellow/tan leaves. Is it winding itself down to harvest time...or just sick of the non-stop rain? It's not sitting in water, but there is standing water surrounding the plots.

Chelle, I honestly don't know... I have a lot of yellowing of the tips of my leaves right now, and should still be a good month from harvest up here. Where you are, you might actually be getting pretty close to harvesting your garlic. And I do think the rain might have something to do with it, as well; a couple of days ago I dug up a couple of plants to see if there was some underground problem (rot, fungus, maggots, or ??) and although immature they looked fine. If yours has entire leaves turning brown, then I would say it likely is getting pretty close to done; when only the top 3 or 4 leaves are still green you need to dig it -- otherwise the bulbs will fall apart into individual cloves (still perfectly useable, just a hassle to deal with!).

Edited to add a link to a post with photos of the garlic I dug up a couple of days ago:

My garlic is really close to harvesting, but we are getting deluged with rain (2.1" yesterday). I think if I can get 2 days of dry weather, I'll try to harvest. My beds drain well, but still makes me worried.

Thanks!

I think I'll dig one or two soon to see what they look like. I'd been hesitant until now because it just seems too early for that kind of crop. I just cut off the last of the scapes last week. Blinking

Glad to hear the wedding went well, Chelle.

We are really needing some dry, warmer weather here. My garden looks like a jungle, but tomatoes will not ripen when the high for the day is in the 60s. and the lows in the 50s. Much more rain predicted for next week, as well.

I have a few empty rows in my raised beds and am trying to figure the best use. I have squash in a lot of places, two replantings of carrots and beans. I am not sure if it is too late to try for another bunch of brocs.

For sure this fall I am dousing all three beds with neem oil and soap. The aphids are awful and I know they set eggs in the fall to mature in the spring. I have dumped all the old soil from pots and will buy all new next year. I may even bleach the pots before planting. Course I am also going to plant seeds directly in the raised beds as soon as they are workable.

Damien says we keep getting notices from Chugach Electric that our electric bill is higher by orders of magnitude than anyone else in our subdivision. Thanks to the pond pumps, deicers, and grow lights in the spring. What's a body to do. He is looking into installing some solar panels on the front and back of the house about the size of shutters on each side of the windows. May look spooky but if it cuts down on the bill, I'm for it. I am blessed that as cost conscious as he is the doesn't grouse at me for my expensive hobbies.

I'm actually enjoying the wet weather. Sure, I'd like a few drier days in between rain events, but it's nice to have a summer where I can actually get away and trek in the state parks with my son...without frying myself, or stressing over how many plants are going to fry while I'm away. They're growing just fine (with nothing more than rainfall) when I'm gone, and I do like that! Big Grin
