On my to do list: I want to make a bed of iris that will look like the American Flag. I bought a few red Iris this year to check which red will look the best and then the hard part to get them to bloom at the same time. nodding Does anyone have some good suggestions on some nice blue colors?
Marilyn, I really like the two irises you posted (both of them are now on my to get list)

Mmmmmm Mordor. Still trying to get Eye of Sauron. Do have Legolas. Will get Ring of Galadriel.
Surprised how many never read Tolkien since it was all the rage in the 70's.

I was led to the Shire in '64, by one of my teachers, in high school. Only later did I find out that both my sisters (both older than I, by*several* years) had "visited the elves" while in college.

An older friend in college introduced me to Tolkien (in the mid 80s), I gobbled them up, been a fantasy and sci fi fan ever since. Same friend got me into Anne Rice too.

Neal, that's how it happened to me. Dad handed me a book when I was 10-ish and said 'Here, read this.' It was The Hobbit and I've been in love with the genre ever since.

I loved the Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings!

And for those of you who are Harry Potter fans I recently made the connection that an iris that I added last year (but hasn't bloomed yet) is probably named for that series. It's Sorcerer's Stone. There are no database photos yet. I'll add some when mine blooms. I thought the colors looked interesting and unusual.

Must be an American hybridizer as the British version of the book is called the Philosopher's Stone. I still wonder why they haven't named an iris Hermione.

As for Tolkien, I always liked the Ring Trilogy much more than the Hobbit. Great stuff. And Neal - I really like Anne Rice too. Some more than others, but The Vampire Le Stat and The Witching Hour are brilliant.

Anyone like Black Beauty? I always had my Mom's copy put away so kids wouldn't wreck it. It was not written as a 'children's' book, but written to drawn attention about the mistreatment of horses.
