Might have to check it out. I've never heard about eating them. Marti that is a large plant. Very pretty..Got to take better care of mine so it will look like that. Think I'll go look it up Alan.
I found this when I looked it up-

The Pregnant Onion is not an onion at all and is inedible. It can occasionally cause allergic skin reactions in some individuals.

Facts about the Pregnant Onion

Let me introduce you to Ornithoglaeum longibracteatum, or as many people call it, a Pregnant Onion or False Sea Onion. This interesting plant is not a true onion and is poisonous to eat. Some people have developed a skin rash from handling the plant. The pregnant onion is from the Hyacinthaceae family and is found in many countries such as South Africa, the Mediterranean area, Central and Eastern Europe and Western Asia. And anywhere else it has been introduced as a house plant.

The Pregnant Onion asexual production of bulbils is what makes this plant so interesting. The bulbils are formed under the skin of the large onion like bulb and as the skin dries the bulbils drop to the ground where they take root. It can also be grow from seeds that are collected after the plant flowers and the seed pods are allowed to dry on the plant.

It grows well in Zones 9A – 10 B outdoors, either in the ground or in pots. Also makes for an interesting houseplant if you have the room. Leaves have been known to get up to 4 feet long with a flower stem up to 6 feet long. It is an evergreen plant the requires average watering and can tolerate even less water, as in some climates it will live off the water in the bulb for long periods of no water. The Pregnant Onion prefers sun to partial shade.

Hello all,

My name is jelinda AKA : jo or jojoe.I am new on this site and hope to learn a lot because I have lots to learn.I have about 65-70 house plants not including anything without roots yet Whistling I do have a few plants I'm rooting. Some how this holiday I have managed to get a lot of cc cuttings.I have 5 of different colors and I have no idea what colors the cuttings are.I have a friend that works in a store and she said people destroy the poor christmas cactus,so most of my cutting are from her straightening up the shelves with the cc's on them.

I have recently moved and we just had 18 trees cut out to get them away from the house and let some sun in the yard.I'm starting with an empty yard not even grass.

I can guarantee you'll hear more from me with questions. My love for house plants always has me asking questions as well.

Hope my rambling didn't scare anyone off Whistling Smiling

Welcome Jalinda. I agree with Charleen, you will love it here. There are many friendly and knowledgeable folks who are always willing to answer questions and help each other!

Your Hoya carnosa is lovely! It might be Hoya carnosa, cultivar 'Rubra', commonly called "Krimson Princess Hoya".

I learned the following from a couple of hoya growers on another forum:

Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' ("Krimson Princess") - has green leaf edges and cream to pink center leaf color.

Hoya carnosa 'Tricolor' ("Krimson Queen") - has cream to white leaf edges and green center leaf color.

Your plant looks very healthy and happy! Have you had blooms yet? You can check out the Hoya carnosa's listed in the Plant Database for comparison: http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Again, welcome to All Things Plants!

Charleen: That's a cutie for sure! Did it come in that nice shell? Yours also looks to be Hoya carnosa Rubra ("Krimson Princess" Hoya). I've heard that many Hoya's prefer to be root bound to bloom.

That has got to be Rootbound. It has bloomed for me a couple times. I keep it hanging there in the window and water it once in awhile. ThaT is why I think it is tough...Poor thing is almost abused. I have a Haworthia that is also a tough baby. gotta be tough if I have them I guess. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Same here! I used to kill plants with kindness (well it was actually over watering!) Green Grin! Nowadays, for plants to survive in my household ... they have to be tough and pretty much thrive on neglect!

Lin,My hoya hasn't bloomed when I bought it I didn't even know what it was it was labeled wrong. After some research i thought "I've got a little gem".I bought it about 7 or 8 mths ago at believe it or not wal-mart.It was not as full or as long. These must be pretty fast growing plants? When do they bloom, in the spring?I read somewhere not to prune them because they always bloom from the same stem, you can cut off the bud setting inside the stem without realizing it?Is there any special treatment to help them bloom?

It just dawned on me I should copy and paste this in the thread about hoya's.I'm sorry.I'm not going to delete and rewrite this so Confused Shrug! Rolling my eyes.

No it hasn't bloomed. It's really easy to take care of.

Thanks for the link Thumbs up

Charleen in your last picture is that an 'Adenium Obesium' desert rose?I have one that just broke dormancy.Going to find the right thread to discuss what to do with it now.I know slowly start bringing it back into light, water not sure about fertilizer.I also have questions about it's size and shape.

LOL, I have a few orchids in my mix too ... they'd probably look better and bloom more often if I took better care of them. I have two that just finished blooming without any help from me and another that has been in bloom for a couple of weeks now. It's out on my deck so I had to go out and take a picture with the flash. This is orchid Brassavola nodosa:
