My trees are probably 75 to 100 yrs old. They bear about every other year pretty good but they they are tee tiny. They are real oily and great to eat if you don't get tired of working so hard for them. I do make pecan pies. Doesn't every body?

My grand daddy use to say spring was here when the pecan budded. It's one of the last trees to bud and you are usually safe once it does for putting out your plants.

Ivy would you like my recipe for pecan pie. It's my grandmother's recipe and couldn't be easier.

I do cheat and purchase the already made crust. With that being said there is nothing to the rest of it.

PECAN PIE

1/2 Cup Karo Syrup
1 Cup Sugar
3 Eggs
1 1/2 Cup roasted pecan(just spread them out on a cookie sheet and put in the oven while it is pre-heating. I turn them a couple of times)
1 Tablespoon Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Mix everything together and put into raw crust.

Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes
back oven to 325 degrees for 45 minutes.

Don't even try it on a rainy day b/c it won't turn out right.

Enjoy!!!

Let me know how it turns out.

Would love to try the recipe. Is it the dark or light Karo syrup?. I use both in my baking. Now I have something tasty to look forward to.
When I go to Raleigh, NC next month, I will shop for some pecans which will be less expensive than in here in the city.
Oh, I have a pretty large shopping list.
Thanks, Ivy

We use the light karo syrup but I don't think there is a difference in taste just color.

Hello Jeri. Nice to see someone else that loves pecan pie enough to make it from scratch. Since I can remember, that is the only thing I ever asked for at Christmas time, My own pecan pie. My mother would have to make at least two pies every year so I could have mine, & the family could have one as well. Your recipe looks great, however I can not even attempt it where I live. No source of pecans, & the rain thing...well I live on a tropical island where it rains nearly every day.

LOL!!! Yes, we love our pecan pies here. The pies that don't turn out looking that great still taste good!!! I've used some of the soupier ones as topping on my ice cream. YUM!!!

Sheryl, Low sugar pecan pie is blasphemous, but my mother has made them for my uncle who is type 2 diabetic. Good luck!
