"The Dutch produce 4.32 billion tulip bulbs each year, some 53% of which (2.3 billion) are grown into cut flowers. Of these, 1.3 billion (or 57%) are sold in the Netherlands as cut flowers and the remainder is exported: 630 million bulbs in Europe and 370 million outside of Europe." http://www.hollandtrade.com/se...

Neal! Just saw your post on how many bulbs you plant -- these along with your iris!?!?! It's a wonder you have any time left to eat!!!!
When we first bought our house I got two bags of 300 tulips to put on a small slope outside our living room window thinking they would look wonderful in spring. Apparently the squirrels loved that idea too and stole all but 4. I sat and watched as they ran off bulb by bulb. They were undeterred by our dogs, us, or anything else we tried. Now I am drooling over the catalogs wondering which would be a good companion for my TB's.

Now you're being selfish Annette. @Cem9165 I guess it's a good thing I put the allium Gladiator back in the bin at HD. After I picked it up and caressed it, back in the bin, picked it up and gazed lovingly, back in the bin. And she sadly walked away. Crying

Darcy, I'm an equal opportunity flower hog LOL! My budget is more a limitation than time, but being a bargain shopper, I still manage to acquire lots of bulbs, roots, etc. Are you looking for companions to bloom with tall bearded irises? Alliums may be a good choice, they bloom later than most of the spring bulbs and aren't bothered by rodents. Leucojum (Summer Snowflake) is a nice bulb plant that blooms with TBs too. That's such a shame about the tulips, I think they would be good perennials in your zone if it weren't for the squirrels. Daffodils and Hyacinths and some of the smaller bulbs (like Chionodoxa, Scilla, Anemone blanda, etc.) usually aren't bothered by rodents.

Marilyn, I don't have a count yet for this year but I think I kept it under a 1000. I did order some little bulbs by the 100, so I may have come close. Still down from the last couple of years, both of which I planted just over 2000. About half of those were little bulbs, so it sounds more extravagant than it really is.

I've learned to order early, you know....before Annette gets them all... Rolling on the floor laughing

Yesterday, I received a box from Living Gardens. They're the replacement bulbs that are in the Vibrant Tulip Mixture. Correctly labeled this time.

David, I haven't lost many so it is getting challenging finding the empty spots and I really do need to stop expanding beds. I think it has reached addiction proportions- yes, I'm a bulbaholic, LOL.

Marilyn, am I understanding correctly that your vibrant tulip mixture is a collection of varieties, each individually bagged and labeled?

Yes, After I got the invoice and box, I was surprised to find that out because I remembered some of them being on the Living Gardens site. It is pricey for 100 bulbs. When I saw the photo, I thought I was going to get all the colors shown, as in a lot of pinks and other colors.

If I'd known that is what the Vibrant Tulip Mixture consisted of, I'd picked and choose the varieties I wanted or better yet, spend the $46.50 somewhere else of what I really wanted to have blooming next spring.

On the purple mixture that have, they do list the varieties. I'd really wished they had done that with the one I bought. Sighing!

Very funny Willian and Neal!😂

I'm so glad fall is here, the weather is cooling down, and I get to play in dirt again, getting all of the bulbs planted.

Marilyn, I see what you mean about being a bit pricey for 100 bulbs, but considering that most vendors sell bags of 10 for $6-$10, that is actually a pretty good deal. Its a shame the mixture pictured doesn't consist of the varieties they sent you though. That often seems to be the case with mixtures.

The only reason I spent 46.50 on it is because I thought I was getting all the colors shown. Otherwise, I wouldn't have. That was a lot more money than the other two mixtures of a 100 I got.

Dear Neal the bulboholic. Do you overplant with annuals or perennials or even seeds after your bulbs are through blooming? I know there's the thing about the foliage having to die back.
