The box from Living Gardens with the 100 Vibrant tulip mixture arrived. I was expecting it on Saturday, so it was a big surprise today.

When I first saw the small box, I thought that there couldn't be 100 bulbs in it. When I opened it, I was upset that there was no-where near 100 bulbs!

I opened the one bag that contained them and counted, not once, but twice, the bulbs in the bag. TWENTY! Not 100! Blinking Grumbling

It was after 5 or 4 pm when I called Living Gardens and talked to someone, but they said customer service was already closed and that customer service would call me tomorrow.

I want them to new shipment of 100 bulbs they were suppose to send. These bulbs could be anything and not part of the Vibrant tulip mixture. Crying

Marilyn, I think your own mixture has the potential to be more beautiful than Mood Indigo Smiling Possibly Negrita is also already a part of that pre-made mix.

Sorry to hear about the wrong delivery. Was the erring bag correctly labeled?

I have quit ordering bulbs, and buy them only when I can see what I am buying.
Even then, there is almost always one squishy one or a short fall in the number.
Or there are under sized bulbs.

@Cinta just don't wear yourself out trying to fill those 3 acres. I found out that the further I got from the house with my planting the more burned out I got. Now that I'm back into the game I'm trying to be so careful not to overextend. And I'm so jealous of your retirement!

Caroline Scott, I have not ordered bulbs since the last ADR order was so shorted and incorrect. That was summer of 2014.
I would like any feed back about Hyde. The martagones they sent were so small I didnt get a single bloom the first season and one doubtful soft bulb didnt make it.
Where is quality control these days?

Cinta, I know how it is to have lots of space and a limited budget. I started with fast multiplying varieties and every few years divide the bulbs and spread them around- a big yard needs big clumps and big beds. It has been 8 years now, and patience has paid off.

William, lots of varieties I haven't seen before on your list, and some really choice items too! We must see photos in spring!

I've been ordering from Van Engelen/John Scheepers and Brent and Becky's for years and have never run into any significant issues.

Gemenie Sage,I also order from VanE and JSheepers. B&B too except their website is such a pain.
I am trying to pull back on planting and definitely am not making more garden space.

Cinta your property sounds wonderful. G Sage has a good idea about planting spreaders.

Thanks! I'm hoping it will be. Scheeper's stated that both Innuendo and Shirley were great mates. http://www.johnscheepers.com/f...

Since I couldn't get Mood Indigo, I wanted the purple tulip in the mix (and that's why I wanted the mix) and searched for it elsewhere and wondered if it was Negrita. I hope so. It will be the first time planting it, so I'm looking forward to seeing it in bloom in the spring.

I'm wondering if Negrita is the bulb Colorblends uses for their Best Purple, which I bought fall 2013. I had some come back up spring 2015. http://www.colorblends.com/Who...

I still need to talk to Living Gardens today. I hope I don't have any problems with them and getting a new and fresh shipment of 100 bulbs. I've ordered from them before and didn't have any problems.

Yes, the bag, as well as, the invoiced were correctly labeled and the box stated 1 of 1.

I have Negrita. They are so durable. This pix is from 2010.
So faithful, they come every year.

Unfortunately I don't do any tulip mixes in the garden any more (because of a deer problem I need to grow them more protected in pots or in the kitchen garden) but when I pick a bouquet I often mix Shirley and Negrita as they go so well together Smiling . They are also both in bloom for quite a long time, which I think is an important aspect when selecting tulips, but often this info is missing.

JoAnn, that is great to hear about Negrita! I've been looking for good purples. I tend to avoid Triumph tulips because they're typically the worst for returning, but I have read in Old House Gardens catalog about old Triumph varieties that are good perennials (unlike modern varieties).

@Kabby, Neal, Jo Ann Thank you.

I have/had two riding mowers. The reason I said had was because the small one if you seen my post was taken out by a tree. The thread "I am lucky and blessed" in All Things Gardening forum

It was easy to get around the property because I ride around I have more trouble replanting and putting up different deterrents gadgets and sprays to keep the critters out. I would find one thing that kept the deer out but the rabbits did not care. I would find things that kept the rabbits and Deer out and then the groundhogs came. It was a never ending battle.

I think I have a system that works for all now but it took a lot of work and trial and error to figure out all the stop gaps to have working garden areas.

Because of the crazy animal problems I will not invest in expensive bulbs. I will not buy them unless they are dirt cheap so if the animals get them I have not wasted a lot of money. Tulips are tasty to every animal so they are planted in pots on the patio. My patio is as big as most suburban back yards so it is a good place for Tulips, and tender bulbs. The only thing that comes up to the patio are the Turkeys. They say nothing eat Daffodils, I have had something that eats even Daffodils. Nothing is safe.

Living Gardens shipped out a new fresh order of the 100 Vibrant tulip mixture today. No problems getting it and they were very apologetic about the box of 20 I received. They said plant the 20 with the 100 that's arriving. Thumbs up
