Ooops. I didn't realize I posted that one. My phone camera has a "cartoon" option...
Tamara, what an impressive flower bed!

Beautiful everyone! My dream is to have larkspur like that Tamara... someday! I keep planting it... and getting like one skinny little plant.

I too am going to try and overwinter my Mandevilla. It was a splurge this spring and has been SO worth it. Usually plants prefer not to do what I intended.. but this one listened perfectly!

I was perhaps a little too liberal with my JMG Mt. Fuji... but it won't self seed too much... well, except that I've hand pollinated it because I want the seeds... and surely I won't find them all in this mess... but it's pretty!

My butterfly bed just makes me happy... crazy, riotous colors, but Smiling

And while I was getting some photos, this little guy came to say he approves! Haven't had many butterflies this year, so this was a great treat! I DID just find some eggs on my milkweed, so we'll have a bunch of monarchs in a few weeks... we'll raise them all inside for safe keeping and then release.

We have to be careful about planting larkspur in this area as it is horse country. Black swallowtail butterflies are active right now.

I always get to this point in the season and say "I'll do it in September when its cooler"
Somehow the weather is never good and its November until I realize why the problems multiply every year.
I have tons of bulbs comming and will be planting in the wind and rain if necessary.

Beautiful garden shots.

I agree with Tamara. Tall stately larkspur come from seeds direct sown now. You want them to germinate and over winter as tiny seedlings. In spring they shoot up. Once you get a good start on them, they'll self sow and volunteer readily.

I plan to spread leaf compost in October.Should I draw back compost where I want to direct sow at that time, should I sow on compost?
Is direct sowing larkspur equivelant to direct sowing annual poppies?

Thank you. Does anyone know the name of this one? It resembles 'Miss Muffet' but it isn't a strap Caladium, I don't think.

Luv that shot with the rooster, Tam, and the kids, of course. The groundhogs ate all my sunflowers in the back.

Thanks for the tip about the larkspur, Karen. Good info.
