I was thinking about the slight hill of grass that will be the background of the CM here. The grass is sort of a lime green color in the sunlight and it's mostly sunny all day. So then I went to Dave's pictures of both Best Red and Crimson Red in our ATP database, knowing his two would be under the same growing conditions, soil, light, etc so any differences would show. Those pictures told me that the darker red on the black leafed tips would show better against the lime green hillside. So I chose Crimson Red. I already am crazy about it. It makes the foliage have that blue/black look, I think.

It was the artist in me who made that decision. *Blush* If it had involved math I would probably have chosen white and been done with it. Big Grin

Mine bloomed pink today. Will it turn red? Sorry, no photo. I'm still having issues with my pc reading my cards.

I think all the reds are pink when they first bloom, maybe even white-ish, Joy. Mine was and I believe Becky said hers did the same thing.

Got my CM today and while it's much shorter than some of yours it's nice and full. I love the color of the leaves and the bloom. It's going to be beautiful in the garden. Thank you PlantMeGreen!

I love it. I'm very impressed with how it was shipped and will not hesitate to order from this company. I have two things on order for spring already.

My blooms haven't changed to red. They start out a dark pink and stay that way until they fall off. No color change at all. It's pretty and I don't really mind, I would just like to be able to call it by it's true name. I don't think that what I have is the best red, as the tag says.

Maybe it's the difference in your climate or soil, Joy. You know how both can often affect the color of daylilies, might be true of the crepe myrtles too. I'm not sure because it's been warm here until the last few days and my Crimson Red was pink for the first day or two but then each bloom turned bright red. Really a nice red.

Joy, I noticed that there are two reds and I think the best red was the one that I heard was described as having "watermelon red" flowers. I would double check Trish and Dave's review of the crepe myrtle (where they discussed the donations and the crepe myrtle that they were sent). I think it was their podcast where they described the color as watermelon red, but I'm not sure offhand.

If that's the case, it could be described as watermelon red. I asked for their brightest red though! Hopefully it's the soil or our tempts. We've been in the 60's 70's during the day and down as low as the mid 40's overnight. Guess time will tell if tempts have anything to do with it. I'll check out that podcast again. Thank you both.

My beautiful Crepe Myrtle started blooming again today, after the tiny first bloom, which was so small I couldn't see it all that well! It's a bit deeper red than the picture shows, and I LOVE it! Lovey dubby

Joy, it wouldn't hurt to contact them and see if there was a mix-up on what was sent. I don't think it would have been pink. I was expecting mine to bloom white and then turn red, but it opened red! That was a nice surprise!
