They're not tissue culture plants, those are root divisions. I had purchase some Itoh peony from them this spring, they looks like little plants in a 4" pot. And look at our package, it's exactly the same.

Yan, thanks for clarifying root division versus tissue culture.

It appears Michigan Bulb and Spring Hill uses the same vendor to obtain roots, or they're the same company😳!

Oh well, let's see what we got this coming spring, a true " kirinmaru" or what? I remember I read it on one of peony forum that everyone ordered"Kirinmaru" from Spring Hill but most of them didn't turn out the right verity.
Anyway, I didn't spend a lot on it , we will see.

Good luck to all of your purchases from MB and Springhill. I hope they all turn out to be the correct varieties that you ordered. After not having much luck with these commercial vendors, I am sticking with the reputable growers eventhough the prices are bit higher. I just don't have the time to wait for years and then find out they are not the varieties that I order. From the pictures, the roots look much better than years before. The eyes are present and fresher, so that is hopeful.

I'm with you Karen. I bought from these Spring Hill types before I knew any better. I realized getting what you order is important and that getting starts that don't bloom for years must be their marketing plan. By the time they bloom for most people, they have long since forgotten what they even ordered.

I've never found it to be worth the "deal". I'd rather buy far less in quantity and know that the grower will stand behind anything I have ordered.

I guess I have been fortunate with my previous Spring Hill orders. I did get what I ordered, Shimanishiki, and the bearded irises were all true to name. I'm sorry to hear that others had such a hard time getting the right plant. We'll see how these new plants turn out.

My Bannister order also arrived, it's seems all my orders going to come in the same week, hahaha
They don't look too good but large size, and again I didn't pay too much for it, can't complain too much.

They look pretty good to me, Yan! If you soak them in water, the roots and eyes will perk right up. I hope mine comes soon. It is going to get cold here this week. We are definitely getting a frost/freeze this weekend, going down as low as 30.

Yes, that's what I heard .
I'm so not ready for that yet, peonies not plant, the tropical plants hasn't winterized, vegetable garden still producing......
So I take off couple hours tomorrow to get those babies in the ground before the boyfriend discovered them. Hilarious!
Good luck with your order, Karen! Hopefully they will be arrive soon.

Bannister peonies arrived yesterday. They are no where near the size of yours Yan. You received clumps in some cases. Mine are very pared down tubers. They look healthy and robust though. It might take a few years for flowers.

Mary, I think the size of the roots are depends on what verity too, some of my root are small, one of them hardly had any eyes. As long as they are healthy looking that's what I'm concern.
My CharMarron order arrived today, they are very good with the shipping, from order to receive the plants less than a week. But I was very disappointed with TP I had order, will not order from them again!

"Feng Xiang Yun Yu" tree peony , I had never received any TP like that small before, I think it's going to take 3-4 years to blooms.

Yan, can I ask you what is wrong with the tree peony you receive from Charmarron? I don't know much about tree peonies quality. What would be considered a good tree peony?

Generally tree peony roots are much more plentiful and larger than what Yan shows. Yan, it seems almost seedling like, rather than a mature plant.

It's nothing wrong with that TP, but for the price I paid it's not a good buy.
It's a division from another TP, looking at the size may be just comes up this spring, have very good root system but PT only blooms on older blanches, this one is going to take me a couple years of loving care.
I have one small TP never bloom for me before, I had it for 4 years now, but I only paid $10 for it, it looks like next year will be the year.

I was going to ask the same thing, Karen, since it looked to be on its own roots instead of grafted. I assumed (you know where that gets you sometimes!) that own roots would be better. And I had 3 tree peonies (all the same variety) that the old wood died on over the last 2 years, all of them bloomed on new wood. Are there specific types that only bloom on old wood? I am completely ignorant where tree peonies are concerned so hope to learn something from this conversation!

Last, I also got a few species peonies from Keeping it Green, 2 each of P. Emodie and P. Obovata. Emodie was teeny, entire thing probably only around 4-6 inches long, but Obovata was nice sized. Can't tell from the pic but the roots went all the way to the bottom of the plastic sleeve, both had 3 eyes on them. They were $22 each if anyone is interested. I haven't ordered this type before but this is the largest woodland species peony I've ever received, most are the size that would come in a 4" pot.

Just got a call from Neva at Bannister's, my order will be on its way by Tuesday! Perfect timing as it's the only one left for the year, almost done!

Those look very nice, Liz! I hope that you will get some flowers from them next year. Are you going to sever the grafted herbaceous root from the tree peony Hua Hu Die? It looks like the tree has developed its own roots.
