Hey Karen, I saw the single pink species fernleaf that we got from Adelmans at Parkland Perennials for $90 this year and another smaller US grower for $150! I think we got an AMAZING deal! All of the roots from Adelmans look great, as usual!

I agree, Alex. Whenever possible I divide the larger roots. I do tend to order too many (glad I'm not alone in that, Lily!) so I don't divide as much as I should. Can't wait to see all of the blooms next spring from all of the roots this fall!!!WHOO HOO!!! Here's hoping for great peony weather for next spring! I'm doing everything I can to prepare to shield stems and buds from late weather--maybe if I'm prepared it'll appease the weather gods.....

Got an email saying my A&D order is on the way, should be here by Thursday or Friday. I'm off from Wednesday through the weekend so hoping to get some work done in the garden!

Tracey, Lemon Chiffon looks amazing. I got it last fall and had 2 nice buds but the hail got it, boo. Looking forward to seeing your root pics! Can't wait to see what Fina sends this year, theirs is the only US seller that rivals the Canadian sellers in size!

$30 is really a bargain for a supposedly very scarce fern leaf. In 2012, I paid $45 for a species double red from Hidden Springs. The last double red I have seen from one of the very major nurseries was $60. Anyone lucky enough to even find a rosea should be a happy camper. Hidden Springs Flower Farm usually has a good selection of the various species peonies but they sell out early. One needs to place an order as quickly as the on-line catalog is posted; sometimes as early as November.

Bought chicken wire and will start installing it tomorrow. I am losing war with star trooper squirrels and chipmunks. Digging season for them as well.

The deal is great! Otherwise, I could not afford to grow this special peony in my garden. I also received peony roots from Gilbert Wild yesterday but they came much later. They look pretty good for the price. I am so excited about these additions: Winged Victory and Astarte. These are Quadruple hybrids containing genes from 4 different peony species: albiflora, officinalis, macrophylla, and Mlokosewitschi. Athena is another one that is a quad. Their colorations are definitely unique. Plus they bloom very early in the peony season. Just hope GW sent me the right roots. Another addition that I am very excited is Nosegay which will be coming from Bannister Gardens. This one is hybrid of Mloko and Tenuifolia.

Nosegay is one of the very few early bloomers that flowered for me last spring, Karen. Hope you like it, it's a tough plant and I thought it was very pretty. And I am so glad I didn't order that single pink fernleaf for $150 last fall. Adelmans is my hero this year.....

While we are talking excitement about roots, anyone grow Cora Stubbs? Brother Chuck? How fragrant? Steady reliable form? A new gift certificate from klehms has me in a position to add a couple to my order😊. Opinions from the peony gallery?

Thanks!

I got Brother Chuck last year but it didn't bloom this spring, a lot of the ones I planted the previous fall didn't, though. We had a terrible spring so it wasn't a surprise. I don't have Cora Stubbs so no help there, either, sorry!

Thanks! I love fragrance so I was hoping to hear one of them has a fragrance to knock my socks off. Ticket told me she has Cora Stubbs and loves it, so I think I'll take her sound advice! ☺️Thanks @Ticker

Also got an email from Adelmans saying my order was shipping today. Nice to get it in but really wish they'd wait to mail until Monday or Tuesday so it wouldn't have to sit in the box for so long.

I took pictures of my Fina order but my computer ate them! Imported all of the old photos that were stored but saw none that I took today. The size of the roots wasn't as impressive as in prior years, most was 7 eyes, average probably 5. It'll be interesting to see if their Kirinmaru blooms 1st year and what the color is....Next up will be Adelmans midweek (yuck), probably won't even open the box until Friday due to long work days.

They sat for a couple days, but were no worse for the wear. As long as everything blooms next spring, I'm good. Smiling

Lemon Chiffon. Hurray!

I also must admit, I love planting nearly as much as bloom season. There's just something about it...
