It sure is a beauty, Lindsay. Are you sure Candace is going to let you take back your babies? I think you should at least wait until that one finishes blooming to reclaim it . .

Boy-o-boy...stay away for a couple of days and I have all kinds of stuff to catch-up on!

Ursula, I LOVE the Cheetah and that angraecum...beautiful! Hurray!

Jim, That Sunshine Queen is fabulous...I don't have too much luck with bulbo's for some reason (I've killed a number of small medusa's (?) before I decided to splurge on a bigger one, which is still alive but hasn't bloomed for me. Shrug! Oh yeah, what does OC stand for?

Great job Lindsey (& Candace) on the Newberry, I love the colors!

That 5th inflo on my Stan has opened, and smells delicious but even I am tired of taking pics of it! Hilarious! I don't see any more inflo's poking their little heads out so I guess that's the end of this awesome show (5 inflo's opened from July 26th to Sept.22!). I just hope I don't have to wait another 3 years for it to bloom again!

Welcome back, Patty. OC is the name of my growing area. Orchid Conservatory sounded too snooty. Do you still want some of those Malabar Chestnut seeds?

Sure Jim! I think I'm meeting you on Friday with Elaine at Tropiflora, so hang on to them till then if you would.

You're right, OC is WAAAY better than Orchid Conservatory! I just call mine "the yard"! Rolling on the floor laughing

I don't know exactly how many plants Candace took off my hands...( why is it soo hard to count orchids?)
but it was certainly in the triple digits....I drive a Mini Cooper..so will only be able to reclaim a certain number.
I think she has earned the right to enjoy any in bloom and in spike. I tip my hat to you.

That one's a wonderful color, Bert. I have several with 'Volcano Queen' in the name, too. Somebody in Hawaii naming these, do you think??

New one open for me today, a lovely little NOID with the most amazing diamond dusting. The shot with the flash shows it best.

Punakea has all five blooms open all the way today, and last night it had a really lovely subtle perfume.

Yep, I have the Bc. Mami Akatsuka 'Volcano Queen'. I don't know what relation she has with the others.

I have (or had, not sure) both Star Parade 'Volcano Queen' and one with Delicious 'Volcano Apricot' I think. Just went out searching for it and could not lay a hand on it to check. I do recall thinking an orchid called Volcano Apricot should be orange and it was purple . . . just proving further, there is no logic to orchid names.

Volcano is the clonal names given to the plants that nursery has selected to clone and mass produce for market. They are not the originator of the crosses however. They pic.I what they think will sell and mericlone it. I forget which nursery in Hawaii belongs to the 'Volcano'. Not H&R or Carmela.

Perhaps Akatsuka uses the "Volcano"? I like your Volcano Plum very much, Roberta! It is btw not registered. Smiling

And if you look at their Cattleya offerings, most of the names are Volcano- themed.
