I took some of 'emerald dream' pollen last year and put it on 'Easter Courtship' ... Hoping to get a nice pink polychrome with that green edge. Hopefully I will get some blooms on those seedlings next year. I couldn't get any pods to set on Emerald Dream though.

I promised you a new bloom, and today I had two. But I will only show one of the two, because the other bloom was so screwed up in color and pistal underdevelopment, it looked like a washed out vanilla milkshake. There are 10 blooms on that plant, so hopefully one of those blooms will be photographable.

So here's the bloom. It's an FFOE for me, a gift plant from James Hall that did not bloom last year when it was planted.

'Buddy's Abilene' - Big, Bold, Bright, and Tall. It's orange with a bright red eye, and edged in red around its frilly edge. Perfect for this time of year as we approach Fall Foliage.

Actually, I had about 8 blooming today because of the heat and high humidity. Here are two more.

'Laws of Illusion' - on a single re-bloom scape. Re-bloomers are sometimes weird looking in there coloration compared to blooms during the regular bloom season

'Ruby Lipstick' - 2nd bloom

'Buddy's Abilene' does look like a perfect one for fall.

I thought the same thing when I saw this bloom on Cornwall this morning. Looking at the photo I realized it is a bud builder so this may not be the last bloom.

With one seedling to go in my sdlg. bed, this is the 2nd bloom today on the one I didn't show yesterday. On a very warm day with brilliant sunshine, and oh so dry, two Gaskins re-bloomers flaunted there fancy.

'From The Sea' - re-bloomer on a single scape with 10 buds. For some reason, it never got photographed this summer

and one of the most well-behaved plants in my garden. On 2 re-bloom scapes after blooming for 5 weeks during the regular bloom season, it's a sheer pleasure to have this plant growing in my garden. Each bloom is a treasure.

Early this morning it was very foggy, which meant I didn't see when the rain clouds rolled in around 10am. I was SO disappointed because 4 of my daylilies were in bloom today and I needed/wanted pollen from all 4, but the weather had different plans. It rained for about five minutes (just long enough to soak the pollen) and then the sky cleared and it was a beautiful sunny day. It's hard to complain about that. Not to mention that all of my blooms held up beautifully despite the rain! Hurray!

Lyonnesse - today was her LAST bloom! So sad, but so pretty. Maybe she'll set a pod this time...

Penny's Worth - Considering the rebloom, I think this one is worth more than a penny, that's for sure!

Royal Frosting - still displaying bud building characteristics. I can't get over the SUBSTANCE on this flower, I love it!

Thanks Two Friends - THREE blooms today! This plant is taking it's reblooming seriously! As I was taking pictures of it, I was thinking about how I've met so many new people and made so many new friends all as a result of my sudden addiction to daylilies this year. "Thanks Two Friends" is such a fitting name and it wasn't lost on me that friendships are like this daylily, some have just blossomed, some are budding but have yet to fully bloom, and some have passed but aren't forgotten. (And some have been 'hybridized'...LoL! Hilarious! )

Alex - I have been admiring 'Ann Hathaway's Garden' when photos have been posted and I've seen it online for sale. It's got some fun genetics in it! That might be one I acquire in the future (when the price goes down).

Libby - Such pretties! Thanks Two Friends is a very pretty double! You have some lovely yellows there! Thumbs up

Mike - When are we going to see some of yours?

Thank-you Mike (yes, let's see some of your gorgeous blooms) and Susan and Becky. I really am getting to the end of this bloom season, and love affair. Sad. We are expecting 4 days of rain this week, and believe me, we need it badly. That will cool it down, and probably take us into Fall for sure.

Becky, just wanted to mention that your DD pod is still a pod. I finally cut off the entire scape yesterday and brought it into the house with a few others I don't want to lose, and placed those scapes in water. Its been about 41 days. I also am drying seeds all over my kitchen.

And lastly, I have NO rust in my garden this year, probably because I didn't introduce any new southern plants into my garden this year. Rust doesn't Winter over in Vermont anyway, but its nice to see green leaves everywhere with the exception of those few that just die naturally. That will come soon enough!!!

From my mountain deck today. 90 degrees on Sept. 6th, hot, humid, and very hazy over the mountain ski slopes. Global warming?

Alex - Lovely flowering deck with a GREAT view! WOW! That is heaven to look out on! Daylilies blooming must be the icing on the cake in your private little paradise! No wonder you sound so calm and relaxed when you write! Whistling Smiling

It shall be interesting to see what those DD seeds of yours produce. I will be starting some new seeds in my window sill soon. In doing so, I will need to cull some of my other older seedlings that I am not happy with. Or make another new bed. Whistling Whistling Whistling

I have to tell you .... I am seeing GREEN! Seriously .... it is AMAZING to see! I now know what green daylily leaves are supposed to look like. Many of my seedlings ... which has me very surprised .... and most all of the new registered daylilies I acquired this year are looking beautiful. It is glorious! THIS is what I want my front border to look like. Now that I have the plants that can perform like that, I can visualize my front border actually looking attractive! It is amazing that they can look sooooo good even when not in bloom! I am a very happy camper to know that most of these may indeed be rust resistant cultivars and seedlings. There is now balance in the universe in my backyard. I can see the end of the battle and the light at the end of the tunnel. The only topper would be to see most of them bloom for the first time before my own eyes! THAT will be the topping on MY cake! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

I am seeing some rust on just a few daylilies, but almost all of mine in the backyard are green as green can be! I never thought it would happen ..... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
