Actually, I have seedlings growing already. They were planted this last spring, but didn't decide to come up until it cooled down (apparently) at the end of August. Lilium formosanum var. pricei and Lilium philadelphicum.

With L. philadelphicum, only two out of the four seeds emerged. And in the same pot, a couple other species with only one and three seeds. I am going to force dormancy come Jan-Feb, and see if I can get the all to come up in April.

Hello everyone, my name is Lily and I live in the suburbs of Chicago. I grow lilies and hostas in my garden and amaryllises inside during winter months. I also like to grow crinums in containers. Last fall, I dug up some of my common hostas to make room for lilies. Smiling

I plant lilies with hostas. Were your hostas too crowded for a nice hole for lilies?
I seem to be putting in upright plants now because they have such a small foot print.

Beautiful picture, Lily!

I told my daughter had she been born 20 years later her name would have been Iris Lilac Kinsman. She said, oh come on, I know you love lilies.

Polly, that is so funny, and quite a name! (I like Lilac :o)

Tracey, that is so neat!

I can't imagine what I would have chose. I thought Rose was a neat name. but didn't go for it. I wasn't into flowers at the time.

My daughter's name is actually Daria Lily. We had thought of her first name and had thought of naming her middle name after one of my sisters, but having four of them, I decided against it. My oldest daughter had named this (girl or boy, mind you) baby Lily long before we had picked out any names. Madeline just *knew* it was a girl and that Lily was to be the name, none of the rest of us had any idea which it would be. Madeline loved lilies and would have pollen on her nose after visiting any greenhouse that she saw them in. I suppose she learned this habit from me.

So after Daria was born, we told Madeline her name and decided that she could pick the middle name (really, it flowed nicely and how could mom turn down Lily?). There are a lot of girls with the name Lily, but not so much Daria, so it is really the best of both worlds. And instead of using her middle name with her first name when we are upset about something, DARIA LILY!, we have chosen to use it when we are proud of her, which is often. Smiling

Rose is beautiful as is Lilac for names. I think every feral kitten we rescued had some sort of garden flower name. We had a Lilac, Lily, Rose, Petunia, gosh...those are just to name a few.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

Jo Ann, yes my hostas are too crowded. I looked at different folders to find a photo, hope this one explains it. I like your mix bed, your placement of the irises is perfect.

Anthony Gloriosoides, I like your name. I looked at all of the post here and I am drooling over your lilies. You grow very nice lilies. Thanks for the big and warm welcome!

Will comment about the names later, my daughter is calling me.

It's a secret.

Suffice to say: the same way the millions of species of plants, birds, reptiles, fungi, bacteria, virus, insects, arachnoides .......

But if I had just swatted those mosquitoes... Big Grin
